Knocking through victorian living/dining - HELP! :)
Comments (6)HI Kieran, There a lot of websites online where you can research the surrounds like: https://www.firesandsurrounds.co.uk/t/hearths-and-backs/marble-and-granite I see what you mean with two rooms and one whole in the wall. The other idea that you could do is have two very different looks for each room, I know the whole idea was to bring them together and you can still achieve that. You could have one room which is more formal, your guests would enter in there first, then the snug would be exactly that, more casual and cosy - that way you could still keep both fireplaces, but changing the feel of the room. To keep them both connected you could use the same wall colour throughout but say change the accessories and furniture, like mirrors, and sofa's etc. If you're still umm and ahhing the next best option would be to get the wall out first, live with the fireplace for a few days or a week first before you redecorate, see if it still bothers you then you'll know for sure if you need to have one of them take out. Then do full on decorating, painting walls etc. I hope this helps?! I would love to see what it looks like in the end, sounds like a fantastic project you have on your hands!...See MoreKitchen Diner & Knock through - with pictures
Comments (6)Wow - fab space to work with! Woodburners and kitchen extractors have clashes in their installation guidelines - so be aware of this when it comes to getting each signed off. Also in general ( although I assume you’ve looked into this before pulling down the wall ) the thermo efficiency of a conservatory isn’t usually up to indoor living conditions - hence most have an outside grade door between inside and the conservatory... so anyone inspired to do this too, after seeing this thread - please get this checked before you start ! Looks a great space and looks like you can still use your kitchen in the short term while you get it planned. I’d echo what Jonathan said re an island - as this can be a good option in a space this size ... but there are also lots of other ways - my advice would be seek out some professional help to create a design that suits the purpose its required for ( ie to be on trend if this is a house you are flipping - or be tailored to your family if this is a long term home etc) There’s a few of us freelance designers on here who charge to design but then you can shop around with ease - or you can approach several shops to get free designs done, but it is harder to compare like for like that way....See MoreTo knock through or not? Comments (11)Of course there is a cost implication of moving the kitchen into a different room but it’s likely not as much as you are imagining. Separately you don’t have to loose the fireplace in the front room, you could change the kitchen design to incorporate it or you could move the fireplace to the former kitchen. The reason to move the kitchen is that you are asking a lot of the smallest room downstairs and it’s easier to have the island and a better kitchen than you have currently if it’s in a bigger room....See MoreEdwardian terrace side return to utility or kitchen knock through?
