Garden wall cladding

Hi, I'm looking for ideas on what colours/style of short garden wall cladding and coppings. We've just laid the classic mixed pattern kandla grey sandstone. Not looking for ultra modern and render isn;t really an option as some of the walls are only 30cm high!

There are lots of nice coping stones you could try such as slate (a lovely charcoal grey) or just some Indian Sandstone in a smaller rectangle similar to the patio? You can get all sorts of cladding for walls, but would you consider keeping the current yellow bricks and top with slate? I think it would look good.

This may help. I also like Minnie's suggestion, but what is odd is that the grey/beige RAL colour looks so different on the close up image. Avoid anything with a violet hue as this will clash horribly. Also make sure that whatever you do is either considerably lighter or darker unless the colour is the same, colurs can look discordant if they are too similar tonally. https://www.e-paint.co.uk/Colour_alternatives.asp

Thanks Sonia. I just cant visualise how a trellis would look as garden wall is sloping. I’ve looked for pics online, but nothing comes close to what I have. I had thought about trellis or wrought iron. It’s more for when the children come bounding up and down the path. My fear is they trip against the wall as they run up and down path. I can cope when they are on the garden, even though they get a bit adventurous with jumping. Have also looked at wood cladding with trellis on top.

The reason you’re hitting resistance is that external insulation with cladding needs proper detailing around damp proof courses, windows, eaves and drainage. Most render firms aren’t trained or insured for EWI systems, so they’ll only offer rerendering. The houses you’ve seen with the Icelandic/Scandi look are often either self-builds or done by niche installers who work with timber cladding and insulated renders. Material supply isn’t the blocker, systems and boards are easy enough to source (I’ve used Online Insulation for EPS and PIR when doing retrofit work), but finding someone who understands fixing patterns, breathable membranes and ventilation gaps is the key. Your best bet is smaller joinery/cladding specialists rather than plasterers.

You could clad them in a material like corten steel if you wanted something more modern. black or grey slate tiles along the top would create a focal point but not useful if you wanted to use them for seating. You could also use a composite to cover the brickwork as it appears quite yellow while your paving is definitely grey.
