Thanks to you all for your advice, looks like I'm going for number 3 and definitely in a large size, I'm deciding between 2 sizes, both big enough to go under furniture - one just about a quarter way and the other will be much more under the furniture but there is £300 difference in price and I really like my floor so I'm leaning towards the slightly smaller of the 2. All the rugs are Louis de poortere, it's a Belgian make but they are stocked in a lot of UK shops (online anyway).

I think this rug is a Flair Nordic shaggy rug - these are discontinued now but if you were looking to renew it we actually have one in stock (230x160cm size).
