Wardrobe problem

Hi, sorry this is my first time here. I have been trying to make my own wardrobe and I am just making the frame for the doors but when it's level it looks shocking. The doors will close against it nicely but ill have a big gap down the side. I have limited skills but learning every day . Has anyone any ideas ? Thanks. Sean .

Don’t worry, we have all been where you are now and you will get there. Building your own wardrobe is an amazing thing to attempt! From your pictures I’m not quite sure where the gap is? Could you share a picture further back so we can see the whole wardrobe and where the gap is? As Sarah says, most wardrobes have trim and sometimes architrave around them to finish off the look. You can get wooden trim at most DIY stores in various configurations.

Hello fhparis I painted my 1980's fitted dark brown wardrobes a year ago. I was able to remove a shelf which i used to practice on and to get an idea of the finish i could achieve. Or indeed if i could do it. Your wardrobes are lighter in colour which is a plus. I mentioned the products i used in an earlier post. Dont underestimate how long it will take to do. I think i applied 3 undercoats and at least 3 top coats. It was well worth the effort and cost a fraction of buying new wardrobes. The pics show 2 sets of painted wardrobes. I like Jonathon’s first drawing for a couple of reasons. You can have a walk in wardrobe for all the hanging clothes, which can end up looking a bit messy, and have the more traditional type of wardrobe for items that can be boxed up, such as handbags and shoes, and folded clothes / drawer items. I think a walk in wardrobe is better without a window as natural light can fade clothes, so much better to have a bright bathroom with 2 windows. Finally, as you’re building the internal walls from scratch you could look into having a pocket door system into the en suite thereby preventing a swinging door getting in the way of either the wardrobe or the shower.

We would advise it is completely dependant on the space and your requirements. Walk-in wardrobes look great if they are kept tidy, however a plus for having doors is that it can conceal any mess and give more protection for clothing. Another trend for walk-in wardrobes is to have smoked glass doors mixed with open elements this could also work with matt lacquered doors. Alternatively you could choose to have open elements for items such as bags, shoes or coats (things you know that are easy to keep tidy) then hinged doors for other modules.

Hi i wonder is anyone can help . My mum has some wardrobes in her bedroom with handles just like these One of them has come loose and refuses to tighten up. There’s just one screw on the back, and i think the issue is that the threads have gone in the handle itself Is there any filler i could use that i could then screw back into? Thanks
