Layout 'Protocols'

Our fireplace, in my opinion, is slightly too high to position a TV above it. I would happily remove the fire surround and change the fire itself. This would allow the TV to be positioned at a more appropriate height. Unfortunately, my other half does not want rid of the fireplace and has suggested the TV be hung on the opposite wall in the living room. Has anyone ever heard of this approach? It would mean we would have two focal points in our 4m x 4m room.

    Yes I have done the exact thing you mention in a barn coversion. Wood burner was on the stone wall on a hearth and the tv was on the opposite wall on a low bench. No problem with it at all as long as you have enough access through the room. L-shaped sofa faced the tv but the woodburner was a much more exciting focal point. We had a tall Morso with a large glass window for watching the fire with glass side panels too. If you shared a floorplan I could advise you better.

    I like your proposed layout. Two sofas facing each other is a really sociable layout. I think it will work well as you have a focal point choice for viewiing. Our tv and fireplace were at 90deg to each other. My only slight niggle is the door on the tv wall, it might be distracting but other than that it's a good layout.
