Hi, for us taking a step back and re thinking with a local builder who we really got on with was the game changer. He had people he worked with regularly who helped with amending the drawings etc. He also really wanted the job because he could see the potential, we are also fortunate to have a big green with easy access to the plot. He was one of many I contacted through Checkatrade after reading reviews. We really had got stuck trying to adapt the grand design to fit our budget and were intending to go ahead with that end result. Then one day I was in the garden and looked back at the house and realised we were going to end up with some pointless box on the back of the house so I posted on Houzz and now work has started and we are really excited. Covid has made a difference to cost and availability but our builder is as on top of that as he can be and we are taking his advice on e.g which bricks are readily available and reasonably priced. It is early days for our build (concrete poured on Friday) so we have our fingers crossed it will stay a positive experience throughout! So my advice would be don’t give up but be prepared to keep searching for the right person to help you achieve what you want, be open to the suggestions of others but don’t forget how you want to use the space when you have it. Hi Ruth I'm in Northamptonshire, but i travel all over the place so distance isn't really an object. With the pocket doors i use, they're made to order based on the door size and how much you want of the door sticking out when its folded back ie for handles etc. In the above kitchen my customer wanted all their doors the same width as they had a bank of appliance towers so i had the larder cabinet made to suit the doors which would suit most instances. I have kitchens ranging in all price brackets and i'm certainly competitive to wren, magnet etc but with more choice and better quality.

Can’t believe the fitter says it’s what you can expect with the budget. A good fitter is a good fitter whether the kitchen is from Howdens or a top kitchen company. My kitchen was from Wrens so a similar kitchen, nothing fancy but affordable at the time. There were no chips or damage. I wouldn’t pay him a penny more. Your photos are difficult to see in context and not easy to see exactly what we are looking at so I suggest you take photos further back for when you contact Citizens Advice. Sorry this has happened to you. Too many cowboys out there 😡
