Front door dilemma
Comments (22)Hi, there are some fab wooden doors available online. Price depends on the wood - oak or hardwood the most expensive and oak veneer the cheapest (pine inner core). The prices you are quoting are astronomical! However, I do realise London can be expensive. You can get gorgeous brand new traditional style doors for half you are quoting. My 1930's style front door was £189 (oak veneer over a pine core) and I bought online as the doorway is tiny and I just couldn't find one narrow enough locally. There was a solid oak one for about £500. Once it's painted who would ever know it's not original! My sister got a black composite one and it looks beautiful. Has a wood grain effect and looks very smart. Good luck with your search....See MoreFront door replacement to a engineered core composite.
Comments (8)Thank you for replying Sobi. It was from seeing your post that I checked the Endurance website out and contacted the local fitter but they said their Endurance doors start at £2,200 - £2,300 which is quite a difference from the quote you received! I will look at your suggestion. I have had a quote and someone measure for a Rockdoor and quotes for Solidor but am just so confused as to which is the best to opt for. I have read negative reviews that recently Rockdoors adhesive is failing and the local fitter for the Endurance door advised that they used to fit Solidor but had issues with damp or something getting into the top of the doors, but that was two plus years ago so might have improved since then, maybe....See MoreWhich front door?
Comments (34)That’s a tall door! Now tell me to shut up if you want, but how about making the skylight above the door bigger so in effect coming down in height to fit a shorter more standard door? Is that a crazy idea? Of course it would mean you get a carpenter or talented handyman to enlarge the skylight frame and fit a larger window. Of course we know how hard it is to get good trades people, and it will add to the cost, in which case a bespoke door may be the cheaper option! How frustrating. As to colours, I love the sage green because I adore green in all its forms, but how gorgeous would the door look in that bright orange or yellow? They would all look good! Hope you find your door soon and I will ask my brother who he uses on his builds. We are in Herts if that’s near you at all....See MoreAluminium Front Door
Comments (4)It is unusual for any manufacturer to allow you to supply your own handles and letter box! Handles especially are an intrinsic function of the door and its security ... I would suggest you try speaking to either Duration Windows or Origin they both offer a wide range of products that should more than satisfy your requirements....See MoreA S
