I know that Karndean have installation advice regards under-floor heating - basically it says check with the manufacturer of the heating to make sure it's compatable. I presume Amtico is much the same as the products are glued to the flat surface. Karndean advice page. This is a handy advice page for tiles. The usual problem with those is that the Adhesive again, can be affected. Tile depot advice. You don't get any of the problems with radiators as they can't affect the floor temperature directly.

I assume it is wet UFH you are having. Make sure you have enough separately controllable zones. The gradual turning up is of the temp of the water that flows thru the pipes. There will be a water temp thermostat among the control paraphernalia. You must make sure that your sub floor is completely dry before laying your floor covering or it will be ruined by water coming out of the substrate underneath as it dries. We waited 12 weeks. Our joiner counselled against wood in any form, even engineered, over UFH. I think also that carpet is not recommended over UFH. We chose porcelain tiles. We have radiators in the downstairs rooms with carpets on their own control circuit.

Thanks for your help and advice- all really useful and helping me sort the confusion of what I need and want and what is and isn't possible. The skinny space is the kitchen now. It's not ideal as of course is very small and narrow so can't house much. But I like that it's just off the reception room and. It quite in it! The kitchen houses the boiler currently and all pipe work there for oven and sink etc so I know this can be the kitchen but just worried the space is too small. My original plan was to keep the kitchen where it is but rehouse boiler and put washing machine in the toilet. The toilet would go in the bathroom but of course now that's not possible I need to put the boiler and washing machine somewhere and if back in the kitchen then I lose so much space. Could such a small space work? I need to rule out this ideal by speaking to a specially that deals with very small spaces. Any recommendations please?

Hi Mary Choosing floor tiles can be quite daunting as there are so many styles to choose from these days. Here are a few things you might like to consider. Size- go for as large as possible, this will help make a smaller space look bigger. What are your floor dimensions? Style- What style are your units and also the rest of your house for that matter? There are tiles which look like stone, concrete, slate, think about which style would suit your house best. Colour- there are some good grey/taupe options around which would work very well with gloss white units. Work tops - have you chosen them and if so what colour are they. Cleaning - if you have a family/animals I would suggest going for something with a slight texture/pattern to it. They won't show the dirt so much. The world is your oyster really.
