God I love your cabinets and worktop - don't change a thing! You could add pops of colours - almost anything will look good as a nice neutral pallet. Do you like maybe a soft lavender which always goes nice with the soft grey-green of cupboards? F&B Elephants Breath has a hint of it. I'm glad to see everyone saying leave cupboards as they are. If you home in on the pictures you'll see that the fourth and fifth shelves down are less deep than the shelves above; the perspective is also slightly different. It's painted to look like shelves with books on but the books and shelves are painted on a cover which, in the left hand picture, is fully up to hide the television. In the right hand picture, the cover has been opened and hangs down - revealing the television. It looks as if the television is also on a wall mounted stand that allows it to be moved in and out so it can be brought forward for better viewing and pushed back so the cover an be lifted. I think it's great!

If you've got the time and the inclination (and budgets are tight) I reckon it's worth giving the paint a go to see how it looks. Lots of the kitchens we're doing for clients now are ones with painted finishes and although (as mentioned above) this isn't the most classic style/a bit old fashioned it will look completely different painted. New handles... save up for the kitchen you really want!

LED strips for low level cupboard/island plinths have their merits in showcasing themselves, however aren't necessary if the space already houses good lighting from overhead lights or natural lighting. However, using under cabinet lighting underneath wall units works particularly well when the main lighting isn't required and the occupants wish to have a dimmer atmosphere. They can also serve the purpose of providing necessary light for worktops when being used for cooking etc. www.pwjarchitects.com
