This is potentially something we could do for our peninsula: raised bar-height area. Probably too much work and expense, but nice looking and functional.

As much as I don't want to, I like the bronze drawer and cabinet pulls/handles. The ones from the company we bought our door handles from look great! Maybe we could paint ours? Doubtful.
This would be very easy and nice.
