I feel that changing the colour of the cabinets from the blue to a lighter colour (not necessarily white, because it will be horrendous to keep sparkling); would lift the entire kitchn and make the counter tops look more modern.
I like this conceptually for underneath the stairs in the kitchen. What I really like is the mirrored walls; not obvious plain mirrors, but mottled like here. I like the wine fridge a lot and I like the idea of it being a bar area. This would be a "show" are of shelves, rather than "storage".
