It's a very simple detail. 4x4 posts were "notched" to allow the top and bottom rails to sit flush against the face of each post. We then ran the mesh in front of this and it was nailed to the wood... Then we attached fascia boards over the mesh to "sandwich" it and secure it... Good luck!!

Glenn Jorgensen Peggy, I am not the builder, however i am a designer builder and this appears to be weathered pine 2 X 8's , with 4 X 4 posts and chicken wire. The caps are either 2X6 or demensional 2X4 (actually 2" X 4" not the 1 1/2 X 3 1/2) It is very quaint... hope this helps :) PRO Designscapes Colorado Inc.
