Hi. It's hard to tell if this will work as I can't tell the door width but what if you were to build a ŵall to wall bookcase on the desk ŵall incorporating both the tv and radiator? Ignore the design of this one, was just showing a pic of one against a window, You may need to widen the pillar by the dining room entrance slightly. Perhaps ammonite by F&B for the ŵalls with a floor that picks up one of the tones in the table. I'd also paint the coving in the ammonite and a darker shade of grey for the bookcase. Have a 6ft sofa (allowing for side table and lamp) opposite the bookcase (not against the ŵall) with a chair angled in front of the bookcase and perhaps go for an upholstered stool on legs as per your inspiration pic. You could use Romans on the windows, maybe in a vertical stripe and then use geo patterns for the cushions. Re lights I'd add ŵall lights to the bookcase and a flush for the living room, preferably just 7 inches high. You can afford to hang something lower over the dining table. Are you keeping the tall cabinet? I think your current table will look lovely with some upholstered chairs

How can I furnish and decorate this space so that functions and look good? I just moved into this small place; starting over . This is suppose to be the living / dining room. My child's bed and the refrigerator have to be there too. Need to have place to store and access books. Studying must also take place here. Place for storage, such as closet, selves and cupboards are also limited in the entire place. It's a rental place so I cannot paint. I do like the colour though. The room size is 14 ft X 14 ft . Your ideas will be appreciated

yes I like the jungle idea possibly, though not sure if should keep with ivy as it matches whats currently there.. , not sure about the shelves or seating by the TV though. In the room next door there is an an 8 seater table, and a kitchen island, so its not as though this is the only place to have seating I guess. I like the ideas of natural look, almost Japanese, bamboo, bringing the garden in, just having difficulty with which wall colours, what to do with the post? keep white or make a colourful feature of it, and also what colour sofa bed, rug, paint on the walls to make everything blend in. It's so difficult, can't go for a lightish sofa, as it would just get too dirty, but I'm open to all ideas and very very much appreciate both yours and Rukmini's I have no idea how to put a room pic together like that so it helps massively. They have a lot of friends round, so a comfy rug /beanbags are also great, as long as we can also put them somewhere away too, so they're not in the way

Hello Nadine, before choosing a paint colour for the walls various factors need to be taken into consideration first - What is the space being used for? What is the size of the space? Aspect of room - N-S-E-W (only applies if there are windows)? Lighting - If there is a window ( and depending on the aspect) as the outdoor colour temperature changes throughout the day from warm to cooler hues, the appearance of the paint colour will change, bringing out the cool or warmer under-tones of the paint. On the other hand, if solely reliant on a simulated light source, then the type of lighting will also have an impact on the colour of the paint. As there are many lighting styles and bulb types available,this is a separate area for discussion ( but one I’m happy to go into more depth with should you wish to consult with me). Existing FF&E - What will be staying and the colours/patterns/textures of these items, and which colour and finish will work best What kind of style are you looking to create? These questions are often over-looked when choosing a new paint colour, but are really important before making any decisions. My suggestion for the space you are looking to change the colour in would be to make sure that the paint colour has an element of warmth to it, as it is an ‘intimate’ and cooler space. It’s definitely important to try a ‘sample’ of the colours on ‘each’ of the walls,and check the colours throughout the day,including with a light on. With the existing Tiles and Flooring you’ve chosen, a pink shade will help to soften the space whilst creating a calm and welcoming environment. If you like F&B, Setting Plaster (dusky pink) is a lovely shade but may be a little to ‘brown’ for you, so I’m wondering if Pink Ground , which is a lighter shade, will be better for you.
