jn267, on the "no TV" question: I haven't had one since the mid-'80s and rarely watched it then. News came from radio and in print. Now I get it online, but I still select articles and avoid videos. I've always preferred music over extraneous "talking noise" at home and have never used TV as background, as many of my friends seem to do. The fact that I'm the world's worst multi-tasker may have something to do with it, but I don't think I do anything more interesting than anyone else does.

Mount it in a dark display cabinet the same colour as the sofa, that way it will blend into the background. It would be best to try and colour match to the sofa, so if you find a display cabinet that you like, you can paint it or get it painted to match. This will ensure that it sits perfectly in the room. You can also paint the wall behind it, up over the doors and down the otherside and have a lower unit, keeping the same dark colour.

Dear Hiba. The images below might offer some ideas for your design; we had this made for our client by a local joiner. Cable management is to both the TV and speakers (not shown in these images - they were fitted later, but we had already sourced them so knew the relevant shelf spacing). We also knew dimensions of the TV and the bracket, hence the projection and size of the aperture. We had the option to fit all the hifi equipment, amplifier, blu ray, etc in the unit, but the base would have projected 500mm into the room, so we decided to run the cables in the wall and beneath the floor to a second cabinet out of shot where there was more space. Lighting is a great feature to consider - we recessed low profile LEDs into the shelves (only 8mm deep) so as to hide the fittings but you see the effect of the light. The other thought is to work out what needs to be stored there (hence shelf and drawer sizes), what can be displayed, and what needs to be shut behind closed doors or in drawers. Regarding drawers and doors, depending on your style, your joiner can fit knobs / handles, or you may choose push-to-open cabinetry. The purple sliding doors run smoothly on tracks top and bottom in this case. Hope this helps - thanks. Nick

Hi All, The problem with a TV in professional photo is not that we don't like them its just that they are such a distraction, if they are switched on they will clash with the room if they are left off they just leave a large black hole in the image. I have personally hidden a television behind a sofa to stop it ruining a shoot! However if a television has been built into a piece of furniture it will always be left in place its just that sometimes it doesn't make a great photo! And here are a few cans and packets for Jenny! Ohh and TV hidden behind sofa! Books models own!
