Wow, that doesn't look like my Palladian Blue from BM at all. The door here looks like more of a Robins egg color.

Yes, to cornicing and a picture rail. I've also put up a ceiling rose. I was planning to paint the ceiling, ceiling rose and down to the picture rail white - and do the same in all the bedrooms and public rooms. You've got me thinking now about matching the ceiling colour to the wall colour... ;-)

Hello headers13, Looking nice! Not much of a mess at all! Normally I'd suggest the idea of dark chimney breast and lighter walls.. Since you have dark cabinets going in then perhaps consider the other way around.. Usually alcoves are better lighter as they then look further away.. Chimney breast to the fore.. Standing out with a beautiful mirror.... I normally don't recommend shelving in alcoves either.. Just a personal taste.. However.... What about approaching it with the idea of scale colouring.. with dark at bottom and working it's way lighter up the shelves.... So you could have dark chimney breast and dark bottom shelves and gradually take the shades up till you get to a creamy white at the top... Ceilings are really gr8 in Whitening by Little Greene.. It would give it a different feel and this style of painting is really in.... You can do it with walls too, see image... Also to lighten the look of the shelving... consider darker and fuller shelves at the bottom and lighten towards the top... This creates the idea of openness with the shelving, thus giving the fireplace the focal point it deserves... : ))

Light colours always help to make a garden pretty so maybe try a pastel colour. I'm personally in love with a sort of light mint colour, this works really well with white (but any pastel will) cornflour is nice too for gardens as it is more of a contrast to the leaves. Growing a climber up some trellis on the wall might be an idea too, honeysuckle smells very sweet and attracts butterflies but any climber again will work. I have attached the mint colour I meant just for clarity, a word of caution would be that it can look a little clinical so to be used in moderation.

Hi, I'm currently going through the same issue, Trying to find the right combo of paints to paint the hallway. I am looking to panel the part beneath the dado to prevent the ever so frustrating scuffing which occurs at sharp corners and am unsure on the colour combo. I was considering grey and white too but I'm scared that it may make the space feel too cold and dull especially as the only light will be through the door which won't be much. What colour combo's would you recommend to make the space feel luxurious and modern, yet not too clinical and cold?? I'd like the paint to be dulux preferably. what is the quality of Valspar paint like, I've seen it at DIY stores but don't know if it reaches standard of dulux? any reviews?? thanks

Megan, How would someone go about making a half-strength dilution of the wall paint color in order to get the results in the photo? I have an interior decorator who is inquiring. Were you responsible for the beautiful paint color selections? I can't tell you how many people have asked me about the door color. I've seen conflicting information about this. Can you please confirm whether it is Palladian Blue or Wythe Blue. To me, it doesn't look like either. Both Palladian and Wythe are very soft tones and actually either will match perfectly with the blue in the rug. The door looks more saturated. Thanks so much for your help! And any decent paint store should be able to cut your paint color by 50 pct. Just ask.

KD Spain, I apologize for not seeing the message you posted long ago! WE LOVE OUR RUG!!!!!! I can confirm that the color of the door is Wythe Blue. I'm not sure how they diluted the wall color; I was under the impression that they used white to thin it out, but I'm not positive. I'm afraid I'm not the designer, just the delighted door/rug owner :) Chelsea Kasch (above) was our talented interior designer.

Chelsea who I believe was the interior designer said Palladium blue but the owner says Wythe Blue. I am actually going to buy the paint soon and was hoping someone could let me know which it is :) Thank you!

Erica, Those are interesting and good recommendations.
