Lovely fireplace! Have you thought about a series of candles on the top of it, or draping it with some very small fairy lights? Alternatively you could bunch some lights on the top in a jar? I think something could definitely go on the central chimney too!

Wow - what a gem. The fireplace is clearly top drawer and is already eye catching but you want it to 'pop out' to *really* be the focus - if it were mine I would paint the walls either side in colour A and the chimney breast in colour B which is a shade on the same spectrum. If that is too much, why not paint the chimney breast either the same colour as the sofa or the curtains - again it would lead the eye to the feature point of the fireplace. You also have a pine frame on the wall, so a mocha or a latte colour would make the lightness of the fire jump out against a darker colour. By looking at your taste (which is beautiful and not risky) I would suggest the easy option of painting the fire breast a matching shade of blue or mocha or latte and if you wanted more drama, to scale up with painting the walls either side in the same colour but a different tone. Your room is very peaceful, relaxing and bright so I would be careful about using too strong a colour and would keep it light but with another colour or two picking up the colour from items already in the room. Lots of options - so start with choosing one colour and then use it either on the breast or if you feel daring the walls and then take it from there.

I agree with above or alternatively pick up the brick colours for the chimney breast. Another option is to paint the chimney breast white and have a picture leant on the mantle. I'd go for something with a black frame, white mount and the image itself picking up the brick colours so it doesn't overpower the fire. Hopefully this would then give a more floor to ceiling feature. I'd also remove the accessories from the top as they're not enhancing the fire.

I agree with removing the accessories - a fireplace like that doesn't need accessories as it is artwork in itself.

Have you considered leaning a mirror (in the way a picture has been suggested)?

Cheap as chips you can wallpaper the fire place and chimney breast in as bold as you dare paper to make it a feature. I have a contemporary fireplace similar to yours but is chrome. It is off centred in the wall and just got lost in a plain wall. I took a trip to Ikea bargain basement and found the internal back of a wardrobe. I framed the fire with this, placing it more to one side than the other to help bring the fireplace 'back into the centre' of the wall. It also sits about 2 feet below ceiling height so doesn't let the fireplace get lost in the wall. Although I toyed with the idea of painting the surround the back of the wardrobe was a great colour so I left it as was and 2 years later the 'industrial look' is finally catching up with me! :-) Total cost of my fire surround? £3!

I also note you have a lot of 'things' round your fire which means the eye is drawn to the 'things'. Have you tried simplifying and clearing the clutter? Just so that you look at the fire instead of the candles/flowers/vases/pot pourri/lamp/TV.

I agree with credz4. The first thing you should do is remove everything on and around the fireplace. If you really want to use it to display some items I would stick to a few simple pieces. I would also make remove the items to the left of the fireplace that are sitting in the floor. To me it throws the whole thing off.
The fireplace is a feature in itself and I don't think it needs anything else. Less is more in this case.

The fireplace is nice! For what I see is that the fireplace and the wall colour are more or less the same colour, so there is no way the fireplace will stand out. I would personally put a stone wall or maybe a brick wall or if you prefer paint then add a darker shade.

Hi, This has the potential to be really nice. First of all I would widen the chimney breast so that it is the same width all the way up to the ceiling. I would then paint it a slightly darker shade of grey to tie in with your pale blue sofa and grey (?) walls. Then you can either build up a surround / mantle in wood which you should paint dark slate or if your funds can afford it, add a lovely black cast iron fire surround. Top it with a pewter mirror to make a statement and a few candles or a simple vase of flowers and it will have a real wow factor:)

Lovely fireplace - but I think that the reason it seems out of kilter is the difference in size between the fire and the chimney. How about making the chimney breast the same width as the fireplace by simple boarding, and then make a feature out of this beautiful fire by painting the whole of the fire and the chimney in a bold colour. If you have another colour in the room to pick up this colour, use that - otherwise try plum colour, and co-ordinate with same colour cushions to add to your blue chair/settee. I also think there are too many small bits and bobs on the hearth and the shelf. Clear most of these and use one large, tall statement piece one side on the hearth - say a very tall silver vase or tall silver ornament. At the moment all the things you have are the same colour, and I feel that it needs more texture and height, but keep it simple. Hope this is of help.

Do you mind me asking what is the make of this fire / fireplace? It's just what we've been looking for! Is it gas or a real log fire? Thanks so much.

I agree with the idea of widening the chimney breast. I'd make it the same width as the fireplace, but would also build in tall, slender recesses on each side & then add concealed downlights at the top (they could even be coloured lights). I would accessorise with a simple tall slender glass vase in each recess to bounce the light off of & would choose a deeper colour to compliment the room's theme. I'd ditch the smaller accessories altogether.
Alternatively, although I'm not a big fan of wallpaper, in this case I'd probably chose a subtle design which had a pale background colour for either side of the fireplace. I'd then paint the chimney breast with the back ground colour of the wallpaper.

I would suggest you change the colour of the fireplace first, put a mirror on it, and take away the tv from where it is now, si that the fireplace is the focus. good luck with the changes, and please update us with photos after.

I had a similar problem in my last house and worked out that because the TV was there, IT was competing against the fire for attention. My solution was to wallpaper the recesses either side of the fireplace in a grey tree branch themed wallpaper with a slight sheen to it. This helped the TV screen melt back into the background and draw out the beauty of the fireplace. Good luck!

I agree with removing everything from on top & in front. You don't have any shelving for a display. I would consider getting a piece of neutral furniture for where the TV is to hide the technical items and give yourself a nice surface. Few floating shelves above would be good too. It's a lovely fireplace & the other things in the room are nice so won't take much to look great :-)
