Help with ceiling lights

I bought these lampshades for the ceiling lights in my living room but think they look too big and busy with the other lamp shades. I'm keen to keep easy fit pendant shades. Anyone got any ideas? (The pictures on the walls are going in frames but they're on order..)

Pendants are of interesting design and they look rather good with your standing lamp as well as their size is good.
For me the point because they don't work in your space is that these pendants would look great in a lower position. For example low above table (dinning or coffee) or kitchen island.

I think there are a few options. The first would be to lower the height of your prints on the wall. They are too high and make the ceiling look lower. A general rule of thumb is that the centre of the art should be at eye level. Naturally there are exceptions but with yours I would simply lower them. I think this would make a difference to the lights immediately. The texture of them works well with the curtains so I would keep them. The light to the foreground needs to be the only one so move the side light. It looks as if it is on a side table and the ceiling light to the foreground is above this. If is is completely above this insert a coloured flex and lower the lamp to shoulder height. If it is just off, have a flex that is long enough to be hooked on the ceiling and then drops down. Your room is lovely btw!

Is it already built? Looks like a 3D render? If not already built then yes I would put some ceiling spotlights in. It looks like you have a narrow strip of flat ceiling (80cm)? if so I would put the spots there. Perhaps angleable spots on a track rather than recessed downlights as that gives you more options for where you point the lights. Then you will also want some lights in the low corners, I would put in plug sockets (perhaps 5amp ones wired to the light circuit) so you can have lamps in the low corners You might also want a wall light or two above the breakfast bar If it is already built it’s a very different kettle of fish and will depend on what is easiest to get wiring to. Might be the ceiling if you can access from the floor above, or the walls if not.

If you have access to a power socket in the room you could look at some kind of plug in pendant light which you could hang from the ceiling over the dining area. You will have to ensure you have enough cable to do this and think about the neatest way to run the cable from the socket.
