Help i need help styling my living room
Comments (12)It may just be the photograph but to me it looks as though the floor should have been prepared (sanded down more). It always pays to spend good time on the preparation. The photo also looks like the room might be in shade for some part of the day so might be a bit dark, plus your having a dark sofa by the sound of it. perhaps sand the floors and go for a light or clear coloured sealer not too shiney. Perhaps look out for a large rug as if the room hasn't been soundproofed it could be noisey for the people below and echoey for you. Don't rush and as someone else indicated don't have too much large furniture. Check if you can buy nice blinds off the shelf that would be the right size, you can then get them more reasonably than made to measure....See MoreNeed help with choosing a colour for my living room
Comments (20)maria galvano thank you, I love them too and make me smile whenever I look at them, I bought them from a Bedouin woman in Petra (Jordan). They remind me of an amazing trip to Syria and Jordan some years ago, travelling independently using public transport and meeting amazing people along the way, both locals and tourists. Loved Petra so much and the local Bedouin people, went back for a second day to have another look around as well as sit and drink mint tea and listen to amazing stories ... and yes, they make my home feel alive as most things in it have some connection to a life lived. Thank you again....See MoreLiving room lighting help
Comments (6)Afternoon, As a rule of thumb the ideal size of a pendant or chandelier can be determined by measuring the length and width of the room in feet and adding them together. Whatever number you arrive at will be the diameter of the fitting in inches. For example, your living room is roughly 14’ x 21’. 14 + 21 = 35 Therefore the ideal size for a pendant or chandelier should be 35 inches. If you’re unhappy with the light output, check the stated lumen output on the fittings you bought and do the same with anything you’re looking at to ensure you get more from the replacements. You should also consider adding another layer of light using table and standard lamps. Doing this will increase the amount of light available and at the same time, because you can choose which lights you have on at any time, gives you a bit more versatility and adds a bit more interest to the room. I hope this helps. Kind regards, Inspyer Lighting Design...See MoreHelp with lighting for dining room and living room
Comments (4)In addition, you could also hard wire the table lamps and look at dimmable lights. There are various downlighters calculators online to check that you have sufficient lighting for the rooms purpose based on room size and ceiling height. Downlights don't need to be in a grid formation and you may want to look at lighting your cabinet and bookcase (or their replacement) for example. For the dining room I would choose the light based on the table i.e. If you're getting another long table maybe a linear light would work and make sure it's large enough for everyone to be able to see what they're eating!
