Hello clarefin, It's a good idea to have the fridge freezer where it is and you could box this in with "Slim" pullout larders either side if there is room.. Could you have a galley? I do like these as opposed to L or U shaped kitchens personally.. The fridge freezer could have a cabinet front for example with double height larders either side on the galley start as another option... You might also consider an island with cooking elements facing the french doors and the island could also morph into a dining table..So this could give you more room. I quite like the two doors and depending on where windows are I'd leave these, if you can still get a good run on the cabinetry and worktop... Consider materials you like, how you cook and move around the kitchen as this too will help you to define what you want out of the space.. Also the things... ! I find when designing kitchens that the what often dictates the where both spatially, architecturally and aesthetically... : ))

I agree with Hugh re supervision plus by the time the extension is built your son will be nearing an age where he understands a little more. You may also want him in there to cook with you soon. I'm sure the kitchen can be designed from a safety aspect too if that's the only thing holding you back. I think the advantage of using OnePlan is that Karen can look at the whole house spatially etc and you're not tied to a particular kitchen company (I'm not on commission!). If you did want to hire an interior designer (designers tend to be qualified in planning too I think as opposed to an interior decorator although many of those could be qualified by experience) then you could find you save as much as you spend. Some of them will offer you their trade discount which if doing the whole house could add up to an awful lot. They may also make you save from any mistakes and I've made a few of those! I'd go on houzz and search for pros and look at their reviews and previous work. I think you need to meet people yourself though as it's important to have a good working relationship and make sure they understand you

What is the orientation of the rooms? Consider the natural light levels in your design. Pocket doors between the two rooms are potentially a good idea to give you maximum versatility, subject to structural support considerations.

Hi Joe, It would be fair to say the cushions do move about quite a bit and I have to nudge them back into position - particular the seat cushions. They probably move about because they're fairly light and hold their shape firmly so they shift around. The benefit of this is that the sofa holds its shape and still looks smart 2.5 years after purchase despite a lot of use. The particular fabric I have is very hard wearing. When you look close up the fabric is quite mottled so it is fairly forgiving. We have two young children who eat and drink on the sofa and the fabric still looks good as new. The sofa is comfy yet you are sat fairly upright, rather than slouching into it if that makes sense. I'm happy with it because I wanted something that wouldn't show stains, wasn't overly expensive (so that we didn't need to stress with the children) yet it still looks smart. I think it really depends on your circumstances and how you need your sofa to work for you.
