New floorplan/layout advice and help please
Comments (14)Hi Lisamarie. Do you have the measurements? It may hopefully encourage people to help rather than guesstimating based on the doors and kitchen cabinets. How will the internal corridor work in the garage? Will there just be a door knocked through from the drive? Is extending the flat roof extension an option although you may need to do something with the pitch of the roof? Have you had a quote for moving the boiler and electrics? How much storage do you need left in the garage? Can the stairs be moved?...See MoreHelp kitchen/diner redesign
Comments (2)Ideally you could do with a kitchen retailer with their own builder. Perhaps someone can recommend someone depending on where you live. Personally I would be considering taking out the window and having French doors here. Then you would have a run of units on the two remaining walls and a bigger island in the middle...See MoreNeed help with open plan and zoning
Comments (1)We would suggest you contact an architectural designer to rationalise the layout and ensure structural verification. As a quick note, we would suggest not placing a w/c near the kitchen/dining room, so that air contamination from the w/c won't enter these areas after use. www.pwjarchitects.com...See MoreCost of extensions
Comments (21)@Dan - after renovating six houses I have become quite confidant at sourcing materials and that can save a fortune. By using people direct we get exactly the products and look we want, the only headache is co-ordinating it all. I am pretty blunt about communication as I have found that if there is not a company in charge you have to be prepared to do some chasing up. I try to eliminate anything that has a 'middle man'. For example, I used a company that makes windows in Lithuania and fits them, no commission etc. Flooring all came direct from the importer, everything is researched. We are currently doing the garden and have even managed to get soil for free from a groundworks company who would have to pay to dump it. We treat all of our contractors really well, even stretching to bacon sarnies and cream teas and now most of them we would consider friends. To be honest I am in awe at the skill of some of these people, plasterers, carpenters, etc, they are craftsmen....See MoreRob
