Comments (660)So funny! I'm planning to paint the bannister at the new house (TNH) black and am veering towards painting the treads and risers black too... I've been searching for images of black staircases on Houzz and putting them in my entrance hall ideabook. They are few and far between. In your case, I think, with your white walls, maybe the stairs white and the bannister black? (Assuming the white walls continue up the stair walls enabling the b/w contrast.) You've already put black firmly into the equation, adding some more may give more reason for the black rad cab. In my case, there is a very off-centre radiator that could so very easily have been directly opposite the front door in TNH which is rather annoying as it stuffs up the focal point. We are leaving here with every radiator covered with a cabinet - and going to TNH that has loads of radiators ...but no cabinets! Yes, the work ahead is daunting - especially since the area of Ireland we're going to is very basic and not full of DIY resources, etc. I keep thinking I'll paint TNH white - to make things simpler(!) Comments (3)Hello francessandah, What you could do.. if you have the wallpaper that was used to do the top half of the room above the dado (rail) (keep that white) you could paper the bottom under the dado with the same paper.. This (top) paper would really go with the flooring.. Then you paint over the top paper a nice light complimentary colour- you may need to do this a few times or if the paper has a sheen, then you may need to paper over that with a plain lining paper, which can then be painted.. This works well aesthetically as the wall blends with the flooring and then gives the idea of space. You have a lot of light which is lovely.. I also like the floor.. You could have a lovely large plant in a beautiful pot situated in the living room section with the sofa and chairs.. Decide how you want to divide the room with living are and dining.. and how much space you want to allow for each respectively.. I would be inclined to choose a light colour sofa and chairs and accent with biscuit and very pale gold cushions, to accent the curtains.. I also think you could have a slightly lower ceiling light.. For the dining table and chairs something with a little contrast.. Have you looked at Io (io) furniture in Lagos... I found a sideboard that is nice.. Comments (32)Beyond your desired look and feel, you need to have a list of appliances that need to be included in the layout. Most technical kitchen design is about how to fit all the appliances in. Cabinets tend to fit into place around them. I've noticed also that you want folding sliding doors (FSDs). They are very fashionable at the moment but come with certain issues you should be aware of. Firstly, they come with a lot of moving parts. Over time, new walls and door openings tend to settle and can cause issues with the ease of opening. When open, FSD panels take a up a surprising amount of space. You need to include that space in your plan. Of course, they can open to the outside but that could impede the flow of people outside. Consider large sliding doors or stacking sliding doors instead. If you're set of FSDs try to go with standard sizes as they tend to be less expensive than custom sizes. I had a quick look yesterday and one company quoted starting prices from £34sqm and another £45, however I'm guessing that may rise if just doing a small area rather than a room due to the actual process. I was actually due to get a quote last week but cancelled as it looked ridiculous with my room to ceiling proportions which is unfortunate as it could have given you an idea! I do think you could pull the tiles off but it might be tricky. I think texture works really well in an industrial scheme so maybe another option is wallpaper? These are all Osborne and little papers, names were something like metropolis, crocodilo, zingrina and mako in no particular order! The last pic is actually showing the black wall which looks like leather rather than the polished plaster...See More
