Drawer design problem

Somehow we mis-measured or mis-planned on drawers. Now the range is installed, but the drawers will only open part way due to the way the range juts out. Any ideas? We are thinking of a false front that flips open and then a narrower drawer box (on the right half of the drawer) slides out. Is that even possible? I do not want to lose my drawers. Please help!

I would install some fillers on the side, being in the corner it will not look so bad and its painted also... move the drawer hardware and order smaller drawer sizes, you can modify that cabinet in 30 min. Talk to your kitchen installer and have cabinet rep come out, they will know how to make cabinet modification.

Did that a few times on the cabinet install jobs when Homeowners purchased cabinets and did their own measurements.

With full overlay doors and drawers you may have an issue opening the drawer next to the stove as well. (hard to tell from a photo) Keep the profile of your hardware as minimal as possible to avoid problems there. What does your cabinet maker suggest? Is it possible to remake the cabinet framing of this unit so that you can have a full functioning drawer rather than mess with the tilt out? If not, the tilt out option may be all that you can do. I'm not sure how they will install the tilt out without having exposed hinges, but your cabinet maker should offer some suggestions. Best of luck.

Whatever you do, put the countertop measurements/install on hold until this is fully resolved.
Seeing this is also a "blind corner", the best compromise might be switching that cabinet to a door with some sort of "blind corner pullout" system (can't use the classic lazy susan in this case).
Either way that door is going to bump into the oven door handle etc...
I suspect you and your kitchen designer/cabinet maker will have to look at this for a while, maybe the solution includes moving the range to the left with whatever domino effects this causes in cabinetry, electrical, hood vent, etc...

I also think it depends on the style of the kitchen. A traditional kitchen can look very nice with drawerline units all round but a modern handle less for example would look better with a couple of big drawer units IMO The good thing about drawerline is the drawers do not really get in the way of things you want to put on the shelf below unless the item is very tall. The bad thing is if you have drawline all round most of the drawer could possibly end up filled with junk seeing as they are not very tall drawer ( mainly used for cutlery). The big pan drawer units are great for storage. Lots of inserts can go in them to get yourself ultra organised and the drawers slides out for easy access as opposed to a shelf unit where you have to reach into the unit to get what you want. As already said if you feel you have use for extra cutlery drawers but do not want the aesthetics of a drawline go for internal drawers

The pool man was going to leave it like this. then he said could cover the blocks with mosaic tile. But I think the gap is too big and I don't like the blocks. so he said we can add extra marble and stick it underneath the present marble OR add 2 squares of the mosaic tile underneath the present marble , so the gap is less ,but I think I 'll still be able to see the blocks.

Also bear in mind that we had to have a raised shower ‘step’ in our loft room because the pipes need a drop and there wasn’t enough room under the floorboards to do this so you might possibly end up losing more head height.

Could you turn the drawer cabinet into a door cabinet? The door might still hit the stove but possibly make the space more usable and allow more access than drawers would.

Put a false drawer cover on the small top opening. Create dividers for platters and put a door on. This way you can stand tall platters into void above. Perhaps your cabinet guy could create a pull out instead of static dividers.

It happened to me, too. Didn't realize the drawer wouldn't open until the installation was completed. I can access the few things I keep in this drawer, but it's not very satisfying.

Instead of a flip out solution, how about using a piano hinge to attach it to the front to the right of the stove. That way both would open fully and give access to the corner.

From what I can tell, no true corner cabinet was used. That seems to be the root cause of the problem. Short of getting a corner cabinet --which won't allow drawer base to fit --a large area in the corner will be unusable.

To "make do," I would:

1. Use a pullout for the bottom of the narrow cabinet next to range. Both the top drawer and the bottom pullout would come straight out rather than swing like a door.

2) use matching face frame on the left side of the three drawer base to make the three openings narrower. Measure to see if it would move the drawers out enough to clear the range. You would then need to get new drawers and drawer fronts that would fit.

This is not ideal but typically cabinet sales are final.

Make the sides a space rack with no handles. Then the other drawers should pull out fine.

The closer I look, the more it looks like the narrow cabinet and the drawer base were installed too close together without factoring it the thickness of the door and drawer fronts. If the drawer or door fronts were installed on both, IMO neither could open...the drawers would be blocked by the cabinet door, they couldn't reach the range obstacle.

The only good way to fix IMO is bite the bullet, buy a true corner cabinet (diagonal drawers like earlier post would be my choice) and a narrow drawer box.

Can you make the drawers narrower so they clear the range? And fill the extra space with a false door. Is your kitchen designer or cabinet maker aware? They can help trouble shoot & fix the issues.

Why complicate things...There is a simple fix to this and it will take less then 30 min. 3 pieces of filler cut to size and screwed to place, 3 smaller drawers, move the tracks and put the drawers in and you will have what originally supposed to be, simple as that.

Have the drawer face/front flip open flat. 90° it will clear the obstacle and the drawer will slide open.

Remove drawers and put a L shaped door for shelves. we had one and that stored so much.

If she hasn't been able to open the drawers for the past five years, whatever is in there is probably not essential.
