Tastes change, names change, trends change, pretty much everything changes; so are our tastes in design any different? If you can think back to when you first took an interest in interiors, has your style changed drastically? Were you once a vintage vulture, and now a contemporary collector?

I find the changes in each generation fascinating and sometimes rather sad. My parents and grandparents used to collect (and inherit) quality, dark oak furniture, and china such as Wedgewood and Spode. But the days of family heirlooms are fast disappearing. I don't want these things in my home and they have to be junked. Today we live in a disposable society where accessories for the home are bought from Homesense and changed every time the mood takes us. Far more fun and brighter homes as a result but, I suspect, not so good for the environment.

My style has definitely changed especially since I started on Houzz. This thing is addictive, I swear. I think however, rather than a complete u-turn, it's been enhanced - at least in my mind. So I still love my classic clean lines, but I'm definitely less rigid now

I voted for a pizza oven although an indoor one might also be good. BBQ's are few and far between for us as we only BBQ when it's hot plus I always seem to spend an absolute fortune when we do one. I fry my pizza dough Neapolitan way and finish it off in the oven but as we've got a gas aga the flipping of the pizza when frying causes some nervousness each time!

This is probably the toughest poll out there - they're all pretty amazing! Purely on the basis of the image I like the best, I'm going to have to go for the Tuscan farmhouse (although the Canadian, other Italian and Swedish home come so so close)!

Yes, absolutely. It's great to add small changes in your home, even if it is changing the flowers in the room to daffodils for the spring time or putting a pop of colour with cushions for the sofa, a small change can make the difference in any room. Decorating for the seasonal festive i.e. Halloween or Christmas is also a big part of showing your unique style in how you decorate.

I'll never forget a friend's expression when, showing off my new kitchen, I opened a deep bottom drawer full of tea towels and hand towels. Her jaw dropped; she had never seen so many. I don't mean to stockpile but I wash mine so frequently, some have never been used and they aren't only the ones I keep for covering up something that is out that hasn't got a lid of some sort. It will depend on how much I do in a day - if it's one washing up and drying session, the towels might last two perhaps three days. If it's a heavy day, I'll go through several tea towels in a day and most will end up in the wash immediately afterwards.

Totally agree with Stebonheath. Our parents and grandparents had lots of things in their rooms; a hangover from the Victorian age. Today we demand brighter lighter interiors and large dark furniture and porcelein ladies are totally out of fashion. Whilst I am not a fan of totally open plan layouts, it does make rooms appear much larger than they are.

My parents house faced a park with mature trees and we had lace curtains totally covering the windows then heavy lined velvet curtain on top, to be closed after dinner. My windows only have the light curtains closed when dark. It makes a huge difference.

Yes I think our tastes, trends and our expectations of what we want from our home have definitely changed. We like to bring the outside in.....especially in our living space where we spend most of our time......as much light as possible is the motto. Saying that I think keeping things too light can be a little sterile and that's where mixing new with old definitely helps create an individual look.

My personal style, like myself, have softened with age. Sleek lines, bold colours and minimalism have given way to softer tones, natural materials and personal eclectic pieces collected over time. Your style should reflect your life, not the latest design trend.

My style has changed from what I thought I should have, to enjoying what I like and not what I think other people would like. I'm finally at home in my own home and it feels good.

I've always liked what I've liked, but I have noticed that my taste has become more nuanced and refined over the years. I guess it's just a combination of experience and continuing to learn more about the styles to which I'm dràwn.

The best looks are often arrived at by a variety of styles pulled together. I think clients are happiest with old favourites pulled together with new influences.

I was a very vintage person when I started browsing on Houzz but now I have had a turn for the modern style and taste, nothing better than black and white (or grey) and one other colour like mustard yellow or lime green (adds to the character of the room I think!)

Since moving into my home almost 8 years ago, I have played with various styles and rejected them all until I think I MAY have found one I can be happy with for many years to come: Creamy white walls, comfortable furniture, minimal style, and some colored accessories.
