If you could build a house from scratch, what would you build?
Comments (25)I'd personally go for the modern home with a partial view of the woods! Floor to ceiling windows and geometric architecture. Of course, in this dream world, the house would be located where it could receive daily unobstructed sunlight and the it would be build with green technology. :)...See MoreWhich appliance could you not do without?
Comments (12)Washing machine - when I grew up, mum had a twin tub, long before automatics and you had to lug wet washing from one tub to the other for rinsing, with huge wooden things then take out again and put through the mangle manually to sqeeze the water out - no spinning as yet. When I first got married myself, automatics were available, but we had no money for one, so everything was washed by hand, even heavy sheets. The joy of the first washing machine I had was tremendous! I still enjoy the sheer wonder of using this machine. I have had three dishwasher, have one at the moment, but only use it when we have a large number of guests. I can't be bothered to pfaff about with it for a couple of plates and saucepans for the two of us, its quicker to wash by hand -and all that turning dirty dishes upsidedown - ugh it goes against the grain! I only use the microwave about once a week to part do a jacket potato - it cuts down the time needed in the oven. I have never had a dryer, it seems such a waste of fuel to me, I have a highly effective German dry air frame, unheated, but it drys two washing loads at once, overnight, in a room which is only heated by day. It not strictly an appliance, but would not survive without that from Oct to Feb, the rest of year washing goes outside....See MoreIf you could have a secret room, which would you pick?

Comments (15)We live in a rural area with a reasonable bus service [ for now!]. I have a 12 year old 4 seater convertible, and we got rid of hubby's ancient car last year [so he uses buses to work] and bought an ambulance instead, which we converted into a motor home/physio clinic for when i work in Greece Spring and Autumn. That hasn't moved since we got back last November, and now needs new battery and starter motor... But we aren't going back to greece until next spring due to staffing changes at work, so......See More- 11 years ago
