Need Help with Colours

I have a chaise lounge in dug egg colour with pattern in natural tones and two very bright large pictures from Africa that have tons of colour.

I like naturals and with so many bright colours I thought I keep everything else plain and natural. However I am unclear what to do with colour cushions for the sofas. Should I keep them in natural or add a bit of blue to link it with the chaise or can I use any other colour I like? - For info this is what I really like bit I have to accommodate these 3 pieces I mentioned, the bright colourful pictures and the chaise with the pattern therefore I guess I have no choice but follow the colour route?

Hello Esther,

Have you thought about painting the alcoves a nice warm creamy colour to brighten the room and give the fireplace a bit more focus. Something like Whitening by Little Greene is a fantastic colour.. You could do the windows wall too... One thing that you might want to have a look at is the placement of the furnishings.. They are all up against the wall..

What about bringing the sofa further into the room but placed at 90 degrees to the left to face the two windows, so it's a bit closer to the fireplace.. The chaise longue which is rather nice could go opposite.. or the armchair..... I actually think it would all sit better on the blue floor without the rug.. Personally I don't feel it is the right choice for the room.. Then you have a coffee table in between and if you put the armchair opposite the sofa then perhaps the Chaise can go to face the fireplace.. So you create a U shape.. Or 1 1 if you get what I mean.. From the angle of the image it looks like the picture on the rear wall is a little small..

Would be good to see what other furnishings you have.. But the peachy colour and duck egg blue will work and a lift with something creamy and chalky like I mentioned.. Some nice table lamps or a floor lamp would be also nice.. It looks like a big room from the photo but the space is being lost because funnily enough, having everything to 1 side does not help... By bringing the furnishings into the room you actually open the room up to show it's balanced and proportional..

For cushions plains light blues and creamy or peachy colours would lift and blend with the walls.. : ))

A friend is currently having a pool installed in Northern Tuscany and has opted for a very dark liner almost black. We have a pale blue liner - it looks great at night with the lights on and its easy to spot any dirt too. Depending on where you live - Spain or other locations, you might need to check with your local council to confirm if there are any issues with different coloured liners. I know in our case it had to be blue in our part of Italy. Take your time - pools are expensive so you want to get it right.

This does depend on the decor, but you could also go for an anthracite style too if you really wanted to go for a designer styling. Here is one of our popular designs from Milano heating. We think that the anthracite adds a little more of a subtle design edge than a gloss black rad. But it does depend on the rooms decor really.

If there's a lack of natural light, the room will never look light and airy. Better to steer into the skid and embrace it for what it is. Pick a deep, moody hue and make it really cosy and sumptuous then enhance it with beautiful lighting like some gorgeous lamps. Playing with the contrast between light and shadow will make the light you do have more noticeable and allows it to be appreciated.

Dear minnie101 sisal rugs look great. I would need two in my open plan area. One under dining table and one in living room area. What colours do you think I should get? We will be changing sofas soon. Buying a purply, mulberry colour sofa. Also going to eventually add a farrow and ball dark feature wall (worsted 284) and farrow and ball (skimming stone) to other walls. Our kitchen is a taupe colour. I look forward to hearing from you. Purely personal, but for me it's the apricot colour on the walls that work against everything else. I'd go much more neutral with taupes and creams. I think you could then really experiment with cushions etc and remember - you could buy as many different cushions as you like to get a feel for what works and then take back the ones that don't.

The room has changed already and the wall is in a neutral colour and there is a light brown wood floor!! Apologies but this was the before picture. Now I am trying to decide on what to buy reference sofas or chairs and the size and where to place what I have trying to take into consideration colour. I am going for a neutral colour too ..
