sorry been trying to load photos but nothing happening||

From what I can see the pattern is really subtle http://www.wallpaperdirect.com/products/harlequin/adele/85452 so it should work. What room is it for? I assume you don't have a fireplace but do you have deep skirting boards, big windows, furniture, large mirror etc to break it up? If you wanted a feature ŵall it could go on the bed ŵall or sofa ŵall depending on what room it is

I've now managed to load a photo & a rough plan! It is a living room with a large patio window opposite this sofa. The long wall with the other sofa maybe would have worked as a feature wall but it isn't the focal point of the room as you enter on that side & view is directed really to the L-shaped part as the photo above. The red sofas are staying. They also do it is a light grey which might be more subtle but would prefer taupe - not sure I'm brave enough!!

Forgot to say the room is North facing hence heading Taupe (warmer?) rather than grey in case too cold....

Hi Miss M, I think given that you have wallpaper already you will have to paper every wall unless you are willing to skim the walls. I really like the wallpaper you chose but like you I am not sure about it on all walls. Have you ever seen the grasscloth effect wallpapers? They add amazing textures to walls while being fairly unobtrusive in terms of pattern. I can recommend the Harlequin Oralia range. I have attached a picture of it in our old house. It has a hint of shimmer to it its truly one of these you want to touch, sorry about the seasonal decor :). They come in an array of colours at lots of different price points. This might work better for you?

Yes I too think the paper could work on all walls.. Have a think about what furnishings you have that will naturally break up the pattern.. It's subtle and so really you can treat it like you might for plainer style papers...

Or you may wish to mix and match.. paper here, paint there or the introduction of a plainer style to compliment....

Or have two slightly different shades of the same to break up the walls.. Consider where to put the big items, so they don't line the wall but offer contrast around the room.. One thing though, it would be good to stick to colours that will naturally work with the red sofas..

Accent with some creams and taupes and more red pieces so the sofas are not stand alone.. Maybe cushions or lampshades.. Then have some creamy, taupe or stone colour throws and cushions (you already have a couple) on the sofa, so there is some accent to tie the colours together.. Even some darker earthy colours could work too.. : ))

Thanks for the advice. hadn't thought about bringing in an odd bit of red to tie it up. I would really like to give the taupe a go so maybe I'll try a couple of walls to see how it looks before going much further. I have paint sample on wall currently which has been matched to it but it looks a but flat. I like the depth that the wallpaper is giving it.

What about choosing the wall with the two pictures and the low table to go a darker colour.. and the arch in kitchen area and the rear wall the lighter version.. Ask for some large samples.. My people send me large pieces so it is really much easier to see how it will look.. Look at the light changes throughout the day to see how they work.. Maybe go dark on the sofa wall too.. (from image above as I know you have two.. and the other wall we can't see the lighter.. so it's balanced.

Think little extra accents of red will be rather nice to go with what you have.... Silk shade for a table lamp or even a floor lamp.. : ))

Just trying to work out how to balance it. I've added some more pictures. I like the dark on the wall with the TV. This sofa wall is the one opposite but not sure if you suggested that as dark to balance or the other sofa wall at right angles to this one.

I'm trying to get bigger samples. It is quite dark during the day but I like cozy in evening. Really appreciate being able to pick your design expertise for this - thank you.

Welcome! I had thought that perhaps you'd want to consider the rear wall a lighter colour.. So you are effectively having light at both ends of the room... With the middle and sides (opposite the sliding glass doors) a darker colour... Think you could afford to bring the sofas slightly further into the room... Possibly move the cupboard and smaller half to what will be the tv wall.. The tv could sit on the lower section without the need for the stand....

Keep it all really minimal on the shelves... You may be able to leave the two smaller pictures as they are and the large two could go in place of the large unit in it's current situ with the console underneath.. Cd rack could go on the tiny end wall that splits the living/kitchen (where 2 little pics are now)

See what you think and possibly have a little move around before papering.. I think the darker bigger units would work with the darker paper.. You have a fair bit of floor space in the living room and the sofas need something to balance them.. Also the rear wall next to kitchen could then be more open which would add to the feeling of greater space there.. A few more ideas and suggestions that you may want to chew over... : ))

Ahh thank you so much!! : ) ) That's wonderful! It's good to double check, so all good.. Yes absolutely to walls 1 and 5 light and 3 and 6 dark.. Try the papers out first as samples to see if you like it..

Good that you're taking a look at the larger cabinets too.. See what you think.. It may be that you hate it but I do love a good move around.. it can do wonders.. One of my absolute favourite things, and part of my services, is to go into someone's home and just re-style what they have.. ..

It would be nice to see how you get on with things and if you find you don't like something, try it another way.. Once you get the placements sorted out.. and you're happy with the papers ... then go ahead and decorate.... : ))
