Living Room wallpaper

I have a living room with a dado rail, two walls have double glass doors leading through to kitchen & dining room, one wall has a window and the fourth nothing. We are decorating ourselves and hate to paint. So question is, can I wallpaper all the walls, no paint, just wallpaper? The dado rail will remain, its oak coloured as is the skirting boards and door frames. I'm thinking of something very light in colour.

Hi Helen

Perhaps you can opt for a textured wallpaper on the lower half and a flat wallpaper on the top half?

I would also use 2 papers but probably go the other way with Plain on the bottom and patterned on top although I like both. Wallpapering is hard work, easy to get wrong and difficult to remove and can be dear. Do you actually dislike paint? Just wondering if it's worth getting someone in? I might add up the cost and time if so. Not that there's anything wrong with wallpaper, I have a fair bit of it!

Which period are you trying to emulate? The damask isn't to my personal taste although that's neither here nor there but I do think the scale may be a bit large and heavy for the room. Have you considered trellis/quatrefoil/geometric/chinoiserie etc style papers? They are period papers but popular Atm. Or just consider something with texture,mie grasscloth effect. You could keep the walls fairly light or neutral in colour and add colour for accessories, art etc. Or if you're going for a velvet Chesterfield consider teal, burnt orange, green, blue etc. You could also add more classical/period accessories ie urn or acorn style lamps, horses head etc (I have one I love from oka which was only £26!). I would choose the paint after the paper and the paper after the sofa!

Hi Kevin Are you renting/ able to wall-mount the TV? If you can, it would save space, and you can get some shelving for additional storage if needed Also, do you get direct/ bright sunlight from the balcony side? If not, another possible layout is the TV on the wall opposite the balcony and the dining table near the balcony. The layout you have may work well. You can also consider flipping it, and having it face left, as drawn. The carpet seems to be a beige/ warm cream, right? Your sofa has blue, so you can get wallpaper to incorporate both

I am happy with the Laura Ashley soft dove grey on the walls. I want to keep the plain walls and the colour. I am awkward I know. Shoot me!!! It is the wall that is wall papered that I need help on.
