POLL: Paint or Wallpaper?
Comments (42)The funny thing is that nothing dates faster than the latest trends! Whether it's the recent vogue for Pistachio green, Orange, or neutral greys or taupe colours or trendy wallpapers, such as the ubiqitous 'Woods'. Paint is the safest and easiest option for those without confidence or design knowledge. Paint does bring out the architectural quality and details (that why until recently architects have rejected them on the whole). But I really disagree with those that say paint lasts longer than papers. Of course it depends on if it's used in high traffic areas but wallpapers in some houses have lasted well over a century! A choice of wallpaper show a certain statement of confidence and with current Site specific, carefully designed Digital papers or Artisan designed, hand crafted or printed wallpaper you are installing a work of art to be enjoyed for a considerable time....See MoreLiving room decoration decisions
Comments (14)My pleasure. I think avoiding wallpaper is a top idea. Having 50 samples and not liking any is a clue! It is such a huge room and wallpaper could look incredibly busy and isn't really the modern look you say you want. Downpipe is great, but I would then have a lighter grey on the top half of the walls and then a chalky white on the ceiling. The cornicing that isn't really cornicing and the other details that are above the doors could then be the same as the top half of the wall or the ceiling - I don't think they should be the same as the bottom half of the walls because, if you look at it now, it chops up the room too much - but that might just be in the photos. You can add pattern in soft furnishings and those giant curtains you are going to have to buy at some point! Here's a picture of what I did in our last house when I decided to embrace the dark and make it cosy. It is a MUCH smaller room than yours, but I used Pigeon and then a Downpipe-ish colour....See MoreLive Chat with Dulux Amazing Space: How to find your style
Comments (91)Hi @lexoo2020 Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay in responding to you, we are just getting to grips with Houzz so it has taken us a little longer that we would have liked to get back to everyone. Have you thought about using paint to create some feature elements on your wall? This way you can introduce your favourite colours in the room while creating some beautiful décor. You can paint a hexagon pattern on one of your walls as shown in the video below; just replace the colours with the ones you like and that will complement your room’s colour scheme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSLT9XYkdO4 Alternatively, how about making a collage of your favourite pictures in frames of various sizes and colours? This way you can include all your favourite moments and people in your room while still styling your space. The image below can give you an idea of how to mix and match to create the perfect look! If you would like some extra storage, why don’t you try some floating shelves? You can decorate them with your favourite accessories, and by adding a pop of colour on the edge, as the picture shows below, you create interest in your room in a subtle way....See MoreShare your design dilemma and win Dulux paint!
Comments (629)Hi Andrea Brooks We can totally understand your dilemma - ‘Magnolia’ is certainly not for everyone! Different colours can evoke different moods and feelings, so don’t limit yourself to one colour throughout your whole house. Dark moody tones work brilliantly in bedrooms, and have been proven to help induce better sleep. Our favourite at the moment is Dulux’s Denim Drift. Bright, fresh colours are great for kitchens, and for creating a lively happy atmosphere. I love Dulux Coral Canyon which is really uplifting. Finally, dusted blues and greens have amazing calming qualities, and are fantastic for any rooms you want to relax and unwind in. Dulux Dusted Moss is a beautiful, versatile colour that will suit most styles of property, either traditional or modern. If you are cautious about using colour, why not introduce it slowly through your accessories, or as a feature wall, as these can be easily updated and replaced. Good luck and we would love to see the results. Hannah Dulux Amazing Space www.designer.duluxamazingspace.co.uk...See Moreraul_breganzo
