Colour scheme help please!!!
We're keeping all the furniture (except side tables)but looking to paint the walls.
The room is 9m by 3.5m and has lots of light at one end due to tri fold doors & skylight.
1. What colour shall we do the walls? We were considering gold to pull it together. What do you think? Can you recommend a paint?
2. Suggestions on lamps, rugs, mirrors, pictures & side tables are also needed please.
The lighting is recessed spotlights which we won't change.
Any advice appreciated, as were new to this.

Comments (8)Hi. I like the colour it is, it's a lovely room. I think gold would be too much personally. If it needs painting i'd go for a chalky white. I would pick up more of the black accents. Add maybe 3 black framed pieces of colourful modern art ( picking up greens and blues as well as red and yellow) over the sofa (similar to what you have over the fire). In terms of a rug would you consider a cowhide Which they also do in white and gold. I only say as they're easy to just plonk on a floor rather than arrange with seating given the size of your sofa. Have you tried moving the sofa down towards the fire with maybe the gold chair in the left corner by the trifolds ( not right in the corner though) so it incorporates all of the sideboard into the room? Add a floor lamp in the other corner of the doors, maybe a tripod with a charcoal or black shade. I'd clear all the books on the cabinet under the shelf. Maybe add a colourful table lamp with a plant and another accessory. Try rearranging the books so you have piles as well as upright which may (hopefully!) give you some more space, you could also pop a little print or vase off centre. Comments (12)Hello Jemima, There is a company that manufactures paint for uPVC. http://www.kolorbond.co.uk/kolorbond-paint-plastic-pvc-upvc There are though other ways to tackle the painting of plastic which are to first paint with a universal primer like Zinnsser Bullseye 123 and then the colour of your choice.. I like Brandi's idea of grey to match the cabinets but then I also like the brown of the french doors.. So maybe leave those as they are. If the windows grey would not suit then my second is a brown to match the french doors... If you cannot access the uPVC to paint them easily, I'd at least find out what they suggest... I think your choice of colour depends on what you are going for and what else it has to work with- So the look will kind of depend on what else is going in room- for instance I could see a sawn wood floor, lots of natural linen soft furnishings and some brushed nickel accessories. I think this would go really well with a soft white. If your intention was to add some patterned fabric to the main room to continue the wallpaper theme, a beige carpet and an ornate bed then I think a stronger colour for the walls than the illustrated neutral would be better. One thing that I think would also benefit.. is to split up the wall of red sofa.. I would move the corner piece next to the side table and move it out into that portion of the room.. turn it 90 degrees to the left and then move the two sofa pieces along to their right a fraction.. This will help to balance the room... I do agree that something above the sofa too would benefit..
Mirror or large canvas.. It may be nice to paint the chimney breast.. The shelf to the right of the fireplace looks not quite straight.. Perhaps consider moving this to the wall slightly to the left above the sofas. If they were situated with interesting configurations or perhaps box shelves that you can create a feature with.. Paint them to match the wall so it appears to blend but offers some texture.. The books could sit inside and it would offer a contrast to the low sideboard along the other wall.. : ))
