Patio help

Is there anything I can put in between the patio slabs instead of concrete. I have just knocked out all the concrete In between the slabs and want to put something in between the gaps that will still let water get through, as we have trouble with our drainage and think if water can get between the gaps of the slabs this will help the drainage issue we have a little until we can sort it out properly. I was thinking sand or mini stones? Would this be ok? Any help / suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

A good idea from Lavin. I had another slightly unrelated suggestion..Really from an aesthetic point of view.. Why not consider taking 1 slab up... Scraping out a large hole underneath.. Fill with a bag of compost and plant a little rosemary from the supermarket even and a sage a bit later, in the same square... I did that with a bit of garden with these slabs... It was lovely.. The rosemary grew to be enormous like a bush... and the sage much smaller but still quite substantial...

It was a lovely way to introduce some greenery.. With a little wooden french bistro table and chairs... I had bays in pots as well... but you get the idea.... Paving slabs don't mean that's it. It was surprisingly successful.. I love herbs.. It gave height and a fantastic cooking resource.. Bee's loved it too.. Rosemary flowers and offers an aromatic way to enjoy the garden.. The woody stems once fully established are gr8 skewers for meat or sausages, Halloumi and garlic..

Fantastic for bbq's or general cooking.. and sage butter for pasta.... So another idea that you might like.. : ))

(Large evergreen shrubs) Pittosporum tenifolium Prunus Lusitanica Elegagnus pungens manaculata Deciduous large shrubs, Viburnum plicatum maresii Syringa Charles joly Hydrangea panaculata Small trees Cratagus monogyna (good for birds) Betula pendula Smaller plants and flowers that work for me. Hi Heather, Porcelain would definitely be a good option for outdoor use as it offers a level of slip resistance that you were concerned was lacking with polished concrete. I wouldn’t go fence to fence with your artificial grass as it will make your garden look like a prison yard (sorry!). Keep the borders, however if you want raised beds then you cannot leave your current plants where they are as you cannot just add soil around them - they will suffer. I like your patio, so you could jazz it up with cushions, seat pads and lighting maybe? An outdoor rug would look nice too. I bought mine from Houzz but many online companies sell them now. Amazon do a huge range of seat pads and outdoor cushions. I can’t see your seating very well but if it’s comfortable then it would be a shame to change it, but of course that is up to you. I’m a big fan of solar lighting. They’re not as bright as mains lighting, but they do make the garden look so pretty at night without any effort. I’ve bought expensive and cheap solar lights and it was the pricey M&S one that stopped working! My other solar lights from Home Bargains and B&M are going strong. B&M have an excellent garden section.
