Of course. The dimensions would depend on the size of the fireplace/burner you would be going for. The opening would have to be made of non-flammable material, such as brick, stone, metal, porcelain tiles, Vermiculite Board, etc. You could use non-flammable paint over that. For example, our freestanding baskets like the one Richard posted above need 60 cm clearance from the bottom to the top; or if you wanted a contemporary line of fire look you could go for our Regulating Bio Containers like the one in the photo below - all required dimensions are available in the brochure with building advice on our website. I think you need a builder or engineer to confirm if the wall where you have placed the fridge is indeed structural. Given where it is in the building I think it is unlikely it is structural- I suspect it is a brick build partition and because if feels solid you have assumed it has to stay. If it can come out or at least be reduced in size I would have a layout as below which gives you space now but can easily be partitioned into a 3 bed later.

I recently redecorated my 2nd Bedroom which is now being used as an office room. The house is an early 1800s home and does have picture rail around the perimeter in the main bedroom so, whilst redecorating the 2nd i took the opportunity to install a similar picture rail. Im glad i did as previously, the room lacked any historical reference or character but now, just a simple addition has made quite a change.
