Wow, you have done a great job already with your kitchen. You have had so many great ideas re. the wall there isn't anything on that I could add. To solve the problem of the chairs hitting the wall I would either opt for a huge floor to ceiling mirror which would encourage one and all to be careful when leaving their seat or my preferred option would be to replace the chairs on that side with a bench. I'd cover the bench in either shabby chic cushions or a deer or sheepskin rug for comfort and I'd play with table decor. Get chair covers for the redundant chairs and use them in the bedrooms - one in each corner. Then for formal dinner parties or for when the table is extended you simply remove the covers and add them to the table and you can still use the bench if the table is extended.

Hello Tarryho, Nice paper and why not compliment that with a duck egg blue or what compliments the blue in the paper... If you want less colour... paint the blue above the picture rail and up to the cornice (not the cornice)... Then paint the ceiling only a lovely chalky white like Whitening by Little Greene... It's a really beautiful colour for ceilings and adds height which I would always do.. If you want more colour then the duck egg blue on the main part of the walls and a lighter version between the picture rail and cornice, along with Whitening on the ceiling.. It's really a matter of what you like as you can pick out both colours equally... One last thing... I would look at getting a bigger mirror for the fireplace as is already suggested... That also give the idea of more height and more light! : ))

One thing you haven't mentioned is the size of the room. If the room is on the small side, painting the walls in the same colour up to the ceiling will accentuate the height of the ceiling and bring the walls in. Also, using one paint colour on the fireplace wall and a different one on the other walls will break the room up and possibly narrow the room visually. You'd be better off removing the tiles (they would never have been on the hearth originally, and replace with a slate hearth and choosing whatever colour suits you and the room. The picture rail does break up the wall, but that's a good thing, helping with the room's proportions. The room faces west so you will get late afternoon sun at that time of day. Whether it's a bedroom or a lounge (you didn't say) the grey green that you mentioned will be soothing but will become much greyer at night under artificial light. As mentioned earlier, it's worth buying a sample pot, painting some lining paper and hanging large pieces up in different part of the room. Study this at different times of the day and in artificial light before making your decision.

Hi, I have used strong white in my daughters bedroom and it is very pale, but we used Cornforth white as a feature wall which is complementary and creates a really relaxing scheme if you like to keep things pale. If you have lots of natural light then I would go for something a bit darker for a living room. X Lottie
