Lost half way through please help

Hiya
I just started updating my living room and hallway so far happy with hallway but stuck with this being its my only living dining room until next summer kitchen extension. So far walls painted grey and grey and silver wallpaper on one side, it a long way from the off white I had for years and I like it so far.

However I don't think my old furniture goes well and what can I do about the bare walls the art work above the sofa (image4) used to be on the top of the chimney and I don't mind not having it anymore. I can't afford to change the huge sofas at least until after Christmas, the oak dining table I still like it I don't mind changing my chairs or cover them.

The curtain is going to go I am just stuck with colour and pattern, the tv stand the same want to get a new white floating but not sure if this sets well with the brown sofas and oak table , I would like to add nest table, console but don't know what colour mirrored or white mat, the same goes for rug and cushions i know I have a long list of dilemma but thats why I am here help please before Christmas. All suggestions are welcome :) thank you

I really like what you've done so far but you're right, the furniture doesn't really suit it anymore. I'm in a similar situation as have decorated my lounge but also feel my couch needs changing.

maybe you could dress your table with a white table cloth and runner with a pretty centrepiece to tone down the wood. Maybe some white wooden chairs? You could probably buy some off eBay or something and up cycle them until your budget allows you to replace them with something fancier.

curtain wise I would look for a plain pattern closely matched to the wall colour...but then I quite like it when curtains blend with the the walls.

Thanks Jonathandb1972 , I came up with a very similar sketch myself. So you think its better to have the lounge at the back and the kitchen to become the through room? Currently I do feel that is the better option too simply because more space in the other room. We toyed with the idea of putting the laundry where you drew it in but decided that an ensuite woukdt be better to the play room/guest room as we have a lot of family to stay and giving them their own loo and shower seems to have become a necessity. So thats why we ear marked the other part where you have put the dining table - mainly because it has a door to outside. If I keep the kitchen area in the same room but switched side from where you put it & dining table the other side opposite the door from. the hall do you think this might work? Or do you think the cooking noise etc will be too loud in the lounge? Thanks for your input I really appreciate someone elses views!

I'm slightly confused by trying to follow this thread, so apologies if this duplicates. Which way does the kitchen window face? Unless there is good reason-direct South? -it may be a pity to demolish any 1920's integrity, especially if only to install dated bi-fold doors. A large aluminium deco style window might be a better idea as it will add character as well as extra low level storage possibilities.Your doors to the garden could be sliding, with glazing bars, or Double French doors. (Photo suggestions attached) If you follow the graph paper plan, then you could also put a sink, dishwasher and noisy machinery in the utility area so that your main living space isn't affected by washing up. It could be a great prep area too and keep unnecessary noise to a minimum as acoustics are really important in a communal space. Food for thought! Best of luck.

Thank you very much for your comments A.S,, Kazza, Casa Ceramica and Jonathan. Apologies for my delayed response! The tiler did indeed suggest putting another layer of aquadry backer board over the moisture resistant mdf so thank you for your concerns. Trouble is he then discovered the edge of the bath has a manufacturing fault so the whole project had to be put on hold until a engineer comes out to solve it. It is so frustrating! Still gives me a little longer to decide how to deal with the chrome strip I want to put down the side of the bath panel and the bath. The tiler said it would not show up very well with the current design where the frame is flush with the bath. If I build it out by 5cm with a sliver of tile, I can have the full effect of it but the downside is the spacing between bath and basin is quite narrow. Your thoughts as always are very welcome!!!!
