Wireless light switches

Hi,

We have recently moved into a property and are looking to install some pendant lights to hang over bedside tables.

Only issue is the walls are solid brick and freshly plastered by the previous owner so don't really want to create the mess and chase the wiring.

has anyone had any experience with wireless light switches and if so any you can recommend?

Ikea do a wireless clicker for their lighting but its not really want we need as the lights still need to be plugged into the wall, we will look to run down from the loft if possible.

Hi,
You have a few options with wireless switches.
Wise (sold by Mr-Resistor) make some and I believe that Rako do too. I haven't used either yet, but I will be installing a Wise Box based system in the next couple of weeks so I can give you some feedback then.

LTS, Would love to know more about your Lightwave system. We were considering installing this throughout the house so you could set 'scenes' etc and have a kill switch by the front door but since Covid 19 are slightly balking at the cost difference between this system which we reckon is the best of what's out there and a standard set of dimmers for third of the price! The upside is all the lovely mood setting, the downside is that they're not the most attractive switches. Are you happy with Lightwave? Any regrets? Anything gone wrong? Do you think you're using it to its full potential? We're sitting on the fence and have to make a decision one way or the other so would love your feed back.

Can a light switch be moved slightly on the wall?

It depends rather on what the wall is constructed of and how far you want to move the switch. It is probably easier (and less dusty) if it is a wooden stud wall than if it is built from brick. If you only want to move it an inch or so then you will just need to extend the hole, move the switch and then fill the space left behind. But if you want to move it further than that then strictly speaking you will need to move the cable as well since the regs say that the cable is supposed to run vertically or horizontally from the switch. Since you will be covering up the old position the easiest solution would be to put the new switch horizontally positioned from the old one. Run a cable from the old switch to the new and fit a blanking plate over the old switch. Less filling and it satisfies the regs with regard to cable position.

if the wardrobe is freestanding then you could look at wireless kinetic switches, such as Quinetic, which could be stuck or screwed on the side of the wardrobe with the receiver/switching module somewhere convenient such as the loft. You can add extra switches easily so could have some by the bed and/or in study.

Hi try LightwaveRF by megaman . They do a full range of sockets, switches and receivers. Cost wise they blow everything else away .Check there website for video and product range. You can go from a simple remote up to smart phone control. We have used them for a few years now with no issues. If you want more info/advise please let me know.

Hi, We're considering using lightwave over traditional lighting. We're concerned about the cost as it ends up being 3 times as much as standard stuff. I notice that your post was 4 years ago. Have you seen an increase in demand for this system or ones like it? Just trying to justify the cost to ourselves. Just wish they did nice satin brass switches though as the design is a bit Star Wars with the blue light etc!

Hi Lucy,things have moved on loads over the last few years . We have just started using a system from
Ener-j . Their dimmer modules are very compact and fit behind the light fitting . They work off a wireless/battery less switch which can be placed anywhere . The app they have is one of the best I have seen .For a mid range product these are very cost effective. They can also be intergrated with Alexa and google home .
