We installed a mirrored splash-back when we renovated our apartment and made the ground floor open plan. A year on, we are very happy with it- it draws more light into the kitchen, reflects the marina outside and although it shows up water splashes from the sink, think about wiping it down just as you would the countertop. You wouldn't go days without wiping down the countertops to keep them hygienically clean, so why would you spend 30 seconds more to wipe away the water splashes?

I love them. From genuine antique mirrors to the new antique style splashbacks or tile effect. I have a bricked up arch window at the end of my hall which I'd love to have antiqued glass cut to fit but sadly out of budget atm. I also love the antique style splashbacks similar to the award winning mowlems kitchen design (not quite so keen on the pic above) but I'm really not convinced it will work in my kitchen. I recently bought an antique dressing table which has a very aged looking mirror, looks great but you can't actually see in it properly!

Toughened vs non-toughened have been a dilemma for kitchen owners for a while. The objective truth is that yes toughened glass is stronger and heat resistant, but due to significant price difference sometimes it makes sense to take risk and just replace mirror in case of breakage, which will still be cheaper than buying full toughened from the beginning, especially taking in consideration that non-tgh antique is stock product and you don’t need to wait for 2-3 weeks for production. If you are looking for simple coloured or printed glass, then definitely go for toughened since price difference is insignificant and it’s not only safer and heat resistant, but also 4-5 times stronger to impact which is good against accidental hits. The other important fact is that broken mirror can bring you bad luck for 7 years!:) so only choose professionals for your installation. We are now producing probably over 100 splashbacks per month with fair share of toughned mirrors so happy to help!
