Hallway Conundrum

Hi everyone.
We're going to be redesigning our hall and wanted to share some ideas with you guys to see what your views are. We first of all have to choose the wall paint. One idea is silver mist from homebase (I've painted a sample on one of the photos) or the other is vanilla again from homebase (we currently have this is our lounge). We want to do a gallery wall going up the stairs (the frames we have are painted in laura Ashley old white and duck egg) and we also have a radiator cover painted in Annie Sloan old white. Finally we have a grandfather clock from the gift company at the top of the stairs too. We're not thinking of changing the carpet just yet.
What are your thoughts. Which wall paint colour best goes with the gallery wall photos? Any help / suggestions / ideas would be great. I will share the results when we've painted.

Adding a bedroom+shower, moving a kitchen - layout conundrum!
Comments (31)Dear all, If you want to add a bathroom, you have to start there and work everything else round it. The reason for this being that you usually have to feed into the existing soil pipe. The soil pipe in this case is on the left hand outside wall. Without knowing if you can put another one on another outside wall ie the rear, which is probably unlikely, you have no option but to place a bathroom as close to the entrance on the left as possible. Obviously you could change the system in the new bathroom to a macerator style toilet, and technology has come a long way with regards those, but they are not for everyone. It may be possible to change the shape of the kitchen, remove the back entrance and push the front wall back, ( maybe not, as i presume it's instrumental in holding up the mezzanine ) If it were possible in theory:- You could - move the kitchen wall back to make more room in the lounge. Add a bathroom with pocket doors ahead of you when you come in and split the lounge down the middle. You could also have a pocket door entrance from the bedroom to the bathroom jack and jill style. Move in any time, as long as you don't mind selling a few bits of furniture while you're there :D You'll be pleased to hear we have started tackling the workshop and, two days of solid reorganisation later, I am exhausted but it's looking better. I'm sure with your skills it would have been done rather more efficiently/quickly but the rain hasn't helped - every time we moved things outside to give ourselves some space, it would start again and we'd be dragging it all back in! Comments (19)Thanks for everyone's input. Went through more testers than I can remember and a 5L tin spilling all over my car. In the end we settled on grey steel 4 in the hallway. That was until we started painting blackened in the living room and decided we should have the same colour throughout :S Anyway we never found the answer to the grey conundrum and through searching it seems a lot of people have had the same issue. Grey Steel 4 and Blackened both appear more light blue than grey to my eyes. Some colours that people insisted were a true grey, were not once we tested. I guess light plays a huge part. Laura Ashley was the only brand I didn't try Nevertheless both colours are nice and blackened is really growing on me. The ammonite in the opening picture might have been fine on reflection, the contrast at the edges with the white paint made it look dark and greige, a perception that would change once the whole wall was done...See MoreWould you create a new hallway for better kitchen access?
Comments (3)Hi Phil My first reaction is yes, put in the hallway so that you direct access to the kitchen/diner from the main hallway but this does make your living room space very narrow. I work in a 2.5m square office so I know the space would not be big. I would recommend you having a full floor plan design completing for the living room based on the smaller size and the existing size so that you really understand what you can have in the space and how it could be laid out to maximum affect and flow.
