I think I'm stuck with the grey carpet as I don't want to pay to change it as we are only renting. could persuade the other half to paint one wall. definitely like the teal colours....thank you!

You said you wished the sofa was darker. I take that to mean that there isn't enough contrast in the room for your taste, and maybe not enough drama. Certainly a rug will help to separate the sofa colour from the floor. Have you considered making the wall dark, if the sofa isn't? Paint the wall behind the sofa in a dark colour (maybe use the aubergine), then add brighter, lighter paintings (or a mirror). This would give the room the definition and drama that maybe you feel is lacking. This room has purple not aubergine, but maybe it gives you a feeling of how a dark wall could look.

We struggled to get our sofas into our house and ended up going through neighbours gardens! We’ve since also had an extension, so our sofas are here to stay because we won’t be able to get them out 😂. With that in mind - they’re are now a few sofa-in-a-box companies. Carolina's cushion color combination makes an instant connection between the large colors of the room and makes it work all together. I don't think you will go to far 'wrong' following that path. Changing the lamp shade to a more distict cream, again, another genius suggestion! Keep working on the rug choice, something is not quite catching me there but it's definately coming along and will look brilliant when it comes together. Good luck on the rug search.
