Hi Am following this thread with interest - I have windows like this throughout my house and am finding it really difficult to decide on suitable treatments. On the upside it means the house always looks light and airy! We currently have a series of temporary roller blinds downstairs which work pretty well, but in the bedrooms we have curtains - although they now cover the radiators so not keen as a long term solution. Would also like to have blackout in the two main bedrooms. Does anyone know if extra wide roman blinds are available anywhere? We'd like an unfussy look. Suggestions and pics most welcome. Thanks.

Hello Tani, Ah I thought it was for you.. You're moving aren't you? Anyway, sorry I added them right after I posted so you could see exactly what I mean.. Perhaps you can paint and paint the rail but leave the treads... That way the rails in place but you don't see it! It would though have to be in the colour of the walls to work... You could even paint the treads a completely different colour if you wanted to say blend with the floor? There are countless ways to deal with these stairs... So many options... So perhaps nothing really needed than a lick of paint (or not as you may prefer) and perhaps new treads.. Maybe though discuss with the eventual occupants as they may not like my ideas at all! : ))

It's a very practical idea to have a darker colour at the bottom of a dado or chair rail to hide scuffs and scrapes. Is there a particular reason why you have chosen bright red (orange tone) as the binding colour for the stair runner? It's a very sophisticated palette at the moment and I fear the red will stand out for all the wrong reasons. I would probably go for a dark taupe or grey at the bottom with a lighter shade of the same colour family above. F&B have too many lovely muted tones to mention. It depends on your other furniture, accessories and lighting. If everything else is not changing I would consider edging my runner with black as it would tie it all together.
