Need help with the layout of my bathroom
Comments (18)We are still working on our new house, there is currently a bath with a glass half screen that is totally useless. The water bounces off whoever is showering past the screen and over the toilet, the floor, the ceiling, and it's only a half tiled wall so the wallpaper is peeling. I've considered the P or d shaped baths which give a larger section at one end in which to stand when using the shower and I've seen there are matching curved glass screens to go with them. Two points to consider. 1. If you are not planning on staying a shower could be a good selling point, the water saving of a shower versus a bath. Our last bath hardly saw a look in during 16 years and although it was a lovely deep double ended steel bath it gathered dust and the shower was definately the go-to choice. 2. I am now considering the usability of the bathroom for an elderly relative who has had a stroke, likes baths, but may not be able to get into, or out of one, with dignity intact. I'm thinking that a large walk in shower with additional wall jets could be a good option and the upscale could be a wow factor. Although you may not be in the same position you can never have enough forward planning....See MoreHelp needed with bathroom layout
Comments (10)All good advice above. I know that you'd ideally like two sinks, but I don't think you have the space for them. If you choose a shower approx 1.5 x 800 and a single sink, you still only have around 65cm to the sink and then 65cm from the sink to the bath. It's not a lot. You need to plot the plan on the ground and then use paper etc to reflect the bath, shower, sink, toilet etc. You will soon see that it's going to be very crowded with a double sink. If you go for the double sink, you've got around 12-14" in front of the shower and the same at the bath end, it will look crowded. The storage can go at the end of the bath, have a single sink because you've got some space to walk about. Think about building the wall out slightly at the end of the shower by the toilet to create privacy. Put your plan on the ground and physically walk around it....See Morebathroom layout help
Comments (10)Hi Lauren, We have a couple of small freestanding baths that measure 1500mm in length, which are ideal for small bathrooms. We have this 1500mm freestanding slipper bath http://www.bigbathroomshop.co.uk/Baths/Freestanding_Baths/1500mm_Slipper_Freestanding_Bath/cid7740pr72650.html and this 1500mm roll top bath http://www.bigbathroomshop.co.uk/Baths/Freestanding_Baths/1500mm_DoubleEnded_Freestanding_Bath/cid7740pr72193.html Hope that gives you something to think about. Comments (14)Idea - on the original downstairs - if the kitchen top/bar came from the bathroom side of the room it might divide up the space better - i.e. kitchen<->dining would not be via/infront of the bathroom door and your natural route to the bathroom would be more along the side of the diner than through it? Perhaps a bar/open room divider might also help the effect? Effectively the right hand side of the house becomes a corridor/thoroughfare even if its not divided like a traditional hallway. Old fashioned perhaps - consider all options - shoe horning open plan into a space 'just because' isn't necessarily the right route. I'd also dig up the original floor plan - i.e. don't necessarily work from where you are now? Just a thought. Or perhaps something like this - pocket door into the diner - might need some tinkering since it nicks the long wall in your lounge as pictured... Bathroom doesn't move though so water in/out is sorted and I'm sure a bathroom can make effective use of under stair space somehow?...See More- 10 years ago
