Colour help please

Hi, I have dark brown skirting boards and doors in my lounge, cream stone tiled flooring and a neutral beige/grayish sofa. What colour should I paint my coffee table and side board?

Hi Emily from your photo it looks like you're after a neutral colour scheme so I'd suggest tying in the paint colour with the existing colours rather than choosing a contrast colour. Farrow & Ball have a great selection of paint colours (including these newly released colours!) and have a finish suitable for interior wood:

colour: Worsted

colour: Drop cloth

I'd always suggest a tester pot to check colour in the room and sanding down the item first, then using a primer for the best results. PB

You could go for Farrow and Ball Pavillion Grey. Or, alternatively if the furniture is timber you could sand it back and apply a blonding oil to give it a limed effect. The natural timber would give a nice warmth in the room, but the blonding oil would take it down and give it a more subdued and contemporary twist.

I like grey if it has a greenish tinge. I’m pondering this dilemma too...our house is white rendor on the first floor. Our semidetached neighbours have just installed black windows which is too harsh for my liking.

I'm not a great fan of feature walls, but if that's something YOU like, go for it, it's your house! As for painting, again, I would say, whether it 'should' all be painted the same colour is neither here nor there, do youwant it all the same colour? Or are you keen to differentiate the two areas? Is one area lighter and brighter than the other? Could you perhaps paint the brighter part a darker version of the same colour and vice versa with a lighter paint in the less bright part of the room? What flooring are you going to have? That may influence your choice of all colours. Have a look at pictures on Houzz and work out what you like from those, that may help you make decisions for your decor.

I think there would be too many colours in the main room if you add another into the equation. Stick to the wallpaper and Timeless all round.

Love the furniture and the rug. A pale green on the walls would look fab, something like Dulux Tranquil Dawn or F&B Mizzle or Cromarty. I’m wary of dark colours (see your other post) but in a bright room a darker green would work, and it does tie in more with the maximalist style.
