The clock is offset. I would feel infinitely better if it was in the middle of the wall!

Whether it's morning, afternoon or evening, after being full body tackled by the dog, I immediately go to my bedroom and change into pj's. I've done this since I was a young teenager (over 25 years ago). I never wear 'outside clothes' inside unless I'm imminently expecting guests!

Each element is fab, love the steel kitchen units, the open brickwork walls and the stars. However collectively the eye dances around all over the place. The steel against the open brickwork is great. The flooring bothers me as it is shouting for attention against strong core elements. Less is more and decluttering would be an advantage.

How could you not see the red star first? It's positioned in the middle of the picture, it's a striking colour and everything else is a bland mess. It's obviously a very nice kitchen but the first thing I would do if I moved in here is remove some of the clutter especially the red star so the lovely cabinets could take centre stage

We are in the market of selling luxury furniture, so would recommend quality and style above all. If you can afford luxury new items thats all very well, they are beautifully made and offer gorgeous styles that can stand the test of time. However, we also understand not everyone has the budget to be able to do so. If your budget is lower, be savvy and buy traditional or contemporary pieces at auction. Use your imagination and buy quality second hand furniture and accessories that are design classics for a fraction of the price. Use interior design techniques that feature colour and textures to bring out the best in your choices. You can then incorporate inexpensive items as long as they are interestingly designed. Inexpensive ....and dull...is definitely not an option.

One eye 'clocked' the clock , the other the soft grey sink unit ! I really like this room .

The baskets caught my eye 'cos I like baskets - but the overall impression is of a disjointed collection of disconnected 'things'. The low fireplace opening and the storage opening adjacent to it is not a good look. It has a slightly unpleasing feel.

Hello Emmeline,

I too noticed the J! as my surname begins with J! From left to include the chimney breast works really well.. I'd tweak the shelves.. think the clock and J placement is just right! : ))

Just goes to show, we all see different things in different ways, would love to see the results of the survey by gender and age as am sure it is all related. Depends on what you are looking for at that moment in life I guess.

Fun post and survey, great to see such different answers, shows how complex design is and there are few absolutes.
