choosing a hearth for my living room fireplace
Comments (16)hi all, as promised (or threatened ?!) here are the photos of my new fireplace. I am still not convinced that the wallpaper on the chimney breast is right and we are thinking of just repainting the whole area white/offwhite. (The carpet and curtains are new). the red in the previous photo above is what was on the wall pre-installation and i was hoping to replicate that, but could not find a plain red paper anywhere! so have gone with red curtains instead. any advice regarding replacing the stripy paper welcome !! thankyou...See MoreNeed help for my living room/dining room
Comments (3)Hi Catherine, could you provide some photos of the room or a simple hand drawing with dimensions of the room and furniture sizes? Without it, it's near impossible to advise anything....See MoreLooking for tips on incorporating plants into my my living room?
Comments (7)I'd recommend the Kentia Palm, they're relatively easy to maintain and they grow upwards rather than spreading so they won't be getting in your way, they can reach about 3m tall so can end up being quite a feature and they are one of the best for low-lighting (though like most plants they'll do better with a bit more light!). If that's a bit plain and you've got a bit more light and space, I always prefer the big shape of a fan palm like the Livistona Chinenis. Regarding smaller plants... the list is long! And depending on the conditions, it changes. Start with a good all-round plant like the Spider plant (they're easy to propagate and hard to kill!), then set yourself a challenge with something more interesting like the string-of-pearls plant. My current challenge is a gorgeous wasabi plant, lush leaves and useful!...See MoreNeed help redecorating my living room
Comments (7)As you sofa is quite a dominant colour in the room, we would suggest toning it down with neutral feature wallpaper (https://www.cole-and-son.com/en/collection-geometric-ii/wallpaper-105/6026/) see below image An eye catching mirror such as this one from Graham and green should be placed above the sofa. (http://www.grahamandgreen.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/950x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/r/b/rbj8303-gold-roll-mirror.jpg) or https://www.cole-and-son.com/en/collection-curio/wallpaper-107/314 Gold accessories such as a statement mirror above the sofa would look great to add warmth and a touch of glam! check out : (http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Linea+Maria+gold+mirror+103+cm/223669299,default,pd.html) Get a longer curtain rail so when you curtains are open they sit against the wall allowing maximum natural light into the room. A rug such as the one below would tie the whole scheme together (http://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-lustre-rug/p1913412?colour=Smoke) cushion: http://www.johnlewis.com/kirkby-design-by-romo-district-cushion/p1953638?colour=Orange grey cushion: http://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-silk-cushion/p1697898?colour=Silver%20Grey#media-overlay_show Hope you like these schemes...they will surely freshen up your interior!
