Yes it would work, but best if you buy a cheap underlay. You can find very cheap underlay on Ebay for like £1 per sqm. If you are in a flat you need to look at the terms of your lease though. BTW we sell laminate at £14+Vat happy to help you with that.

We recently bought a new house and the carpet smelled strongly of dog urine in certain areas. We ripped the carpet and underlay up, and cleaned the screed. We then laid some new underlay and laminate flooring. However…the smell is still with us! Is there anything that can be done without having to take up the newly laid floor??
