kitchen design ideas.

We are building a house at the minute and the kitchen is next on the list . any smart design tips ...meaning where to put things . clever ideas to bring in???? any advice will be cool thanks

Bring a kitchen designer onboard to work with you on this.

Kitchen design needs to be safe, ergonomic, and look great too. It's not really something you can do all on your own. Unless you do similar work in you own profession.

Either visit showrooms and choose a product and work with the in house designer, or hire an independent ( like us) who will work with you remotely to design a kitchen that works for you and then shop around and compare like for like .

(NB. We are currently taking booking for June now. )

Another idea is to perhaps hire a designer who can design with all your product specifications in mind and then help you procure them at the most cost effective way possible.. Schemes, colour and everything from a socket to a bulb.. That way you get a complete design with everything considered.. Also a savvy designer with fantastic taste but clever design hacks can also save you on budget.. What's important is having a kitchen that functions around who "you" are in the home in question, how you like to cook and entertain and of course show off every lovely appliance.. .. : ))

Sound advice from both above. Cat's kitchen cupboards make it feel larger and cleaner in her kitchen. Bagpuss is quite correct with hiding appliances too. Paint the back door white and this will make it less of a stand out feature. Go for light units and lighter worktop. This will reflect light and help to make it feel bigger. Have fun.

Your project plan is very similar to the project we did in Esher few years ago, please have a look at Esher project. I would suggest incorporating sliding doors to utility room, it’s more functional and cleaner look and creates more space for utility room. The island will be great feature in your kitchen. The size of the island in Esher project is 1.600mm x 2.400mm, sittings for 4 people, consist of 3 units 800mmm x 600mm. In Ailsa Road Twickenham project the size of the island is 1.400 mm x 2.400 mmm for 6 people. I would recommend the lighting above the island (as in Alisa Road project), bright and dimmable LED lights, as your space will require lots of clever lighting, At this stage I would suggest getting free 3D AutoCAD design of your desired kitchen which can be adjusted with your requirements , it will help you both on visualisation of your future family space. It does all seem a bit spaced out like this. My opinion would be to keep the hob on the island where it is so when you are cooking you are looking out on to what I presume is the garden/outdoor space and you can also see in to the TV/snug area. I would keep the ovens where they are but also position the sink along this wall if possible ( I presume you will be taking the floor up to run the water waste underneath?). I would not try and squeeze the sink/drainer in to the space in the middle of the tall units as this will not give you room to put anything down when taking it out of the oven. I would potentially only have 3 tall units on this wall and maybe keep them all on one side so the space does not look too overcrowded? So you could have a tall housing for a larder, the other for a fridge/freezer and the other for the ovens? For the units on the opposite wall under the window I would keep these all as base height units (no tall units) to help to open the space up more especially as this will be a high traffic zone with people walking through to the dining table and through the doors to the outside space.

Its a great space. I quite like the floor but there is a lot of it and its a bit flat looking, you could add a sisal rug under the table to break it up. I would also sell the black fridge and replace with something smaller, lighter and more discreet and a pale coloured bin too. Not a fan of the brick and think painting or plastering over it would create a sense of space and light. Maybe add some rustic mirrors to bounce the light around? The table is quite dark and heavy so again you could look at other options, though it does sit nicely with your other furnishings. And as others say, painting the units and beams will also make a big difference.

Hello there,

I agree with the above, get someone who knows what they are talking about when it comes to new kitchens. We believe that function must come before fashion. All kitchens these days can be stunning with very little additional cost to the customer.

Our priority will always be to cater for the size of the family before presenting the styles of kitchen.
