Hi Michael-see two options below- would be good to know your wishlist and how much cooking you do so how much prep area you definitely need and any structural changes you can undertake- having more views to the outside plus good unobstructed movement will make the best use of the long narrow space- it’s a bit tight to fit an island so peninsula would be better plus whether you are open to extending the kitchen worktop to across the arch which I assume is you dining area

Thanks for this @slow @slowcoachltd. I love the idea of the peninsula (option b) because we also thought space was too tight for an island. Me and the wife do a lot of cooking so would really like a spacious kitchen with loads of storage and prep space. We really want to maximise the use of the whole space so dont mind having the kitchen across the arch. We have a seperate dining room so we plan to use the whole space for the kitchen.

We will need to put in a steel beam when we remove the arched wall however the walls wont be flush. We have been told that the beams on each side of the kitchen will stick out 15cm and be 30cm wide)

As for the wish list we also want an american fridge freezer, build in 5 burner hob. We have 3 kids so want enough space for them to all be able to sit at the breakfast bar.

Also forgot to mention we are going to create a doorway to the dining room to make the house flow better. Haven't decided which way it will open yet though.( see pic attached)

Hi Michael! see one option below- currently the flow from one space to another seems a bit inefficient- I would open the area between kitchen and dining so it’s easy to socialise and carry hot food from kitchen to dining area- the access to garden could be moved- creating a window for views or maybe just wall for more cabinet space- closing the access from entrance gives you extra long stretch of wall for floor to ceiling storage plus American fridge freezer ( blue strip) and the green strip can be breakfast bar. This way you get better storage and unobstructed movement space with multiple people

Thanks for this @slowcoachltd. This makes the whole house open plan which i had not thought of. Not sure if the wife will like all open plan lol.. Maybe i could could create some division in the dining/living area.

Yes French doors would look great between living and dining and keeps the cooking aromas contained as well! You could also go for a galley kitchen. With the space being narrow it will be good to have clear passages from one zone to another..
