I need ideas for my bedroom.

Hi,

I am currently in the planning stages of my own renovation project. I am completely redesigning my bedroom- stripping the walls, carpet, everything! I am so excited to be tackling this project but alas have come across my first obstacle-paint colour.

I have been scrolling through the photo stream to try and get some inspiration for colour scheme. I gravitate towards the neutral creams, beiges and powder blues however I am worried that a colour so light could make a cold room feel colder and too clinical. On the other end of the spectrum, although the more vibrant paints look super cool- I just can't see it working in my light, clean & airy vision. I don't want my room to be too dark.

Has anyone got any suggestions or helpful tips? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Sonia. Do you have existing furniture to work around or are you buying new? If you go for the neutrals I think you just need to add lots of different textures to add the warmth. If in budget I'd go for a wood floor as that will add warmth immediately but if not add at least one piece of furniture, antique or antique looking might look good. Some gold accents will also add warmth such as mirror, light fitting, picture frame etc. table lamps also give the cosy feel and would add faux stems or flowers and if you have the room a chair. If you want to use the blue perhaps consider using with pale stone'ish coloured walls but adding a blue chair, cushions and perhaps in a curtain pattern but again with some gold, wood etc. You could also add a feature wallpaper such as grasscloth or faux wood panelling etc

Hello Sonia,

Well you can certainly create a fantastic scheme with creams off whites and powder blues. I also like stifkey from Farrow and Ball.. To this you could have painted floorboards which is really easy to do. Not farrow and ball! Consider wallhangings like feathery juju hats and interesting arrangements.. Could be over the bed or on another wall..

Introduce the colours to the bed linens and layer throws and bedspreads.. With cushions. To this some delicate furniture with some brassy accessories.. Maybe a lamp or a decorative piece.. You could have light floor and ceiling with colour in between, you could have floor and walls same colour and lighter ceiling.. Are there any architectural features you want to include.. Woodwork etc.. :))

Hi there, I'd say you've made a great start with Cornforth White because it's such a lovely calming and understated grey colour. It also means you can go pretty much any way colour wise. If you fancy keeping the room relatively neutral, opt for a relatively simple fabric for the curtains... Hi. What kind of budget do you have? Do you have any furniture at all or a carpet? I think if you're going for a dark scheme it does tend to automatically look expensive which helps. I'd get yourself on eBay. Have only had a quick look but you can pick up a french bed cheaply (you can buy a divan base in ikea) and I'd match with marble top cabinets. The bed can be painted if need be. I might look at second hand or antique shops for a chair that you can re-cover yourself. eBay is also good for cushions in designer/high street fabrics if you plough through. Maybe try TK Max for bedding, lights etc. Sainsbury's sometime do some good accessories too. Without pictures about all I can do is suggest your explore Houzz's extraordinary collection of pictures in a search for inspiration. Palest of grey below and the pink in the second picture, as well as the decor used, give very different looks, as you see. You might also consider a very pale turquoise, or cream or white for the walls -- depends on what else is in the room.

Personally I’d go for neutral carpets, they should in theory last a lot longer than paint then you’re not so tied to a colour palette when you want to change a room. I’d lift the neutral walls with accent colours for art and accessories and plants will also add some life
