The issue with marble as a worktop surface is that it can stain quite easily, if there is a particular marble pattern you like you could always try and see if there is a composite version of it
We have used marble as a splash back in this case to give a theatrical backdrop to the kitchen and then contrasted it on the island unit with a granite to soften up the look and to give us a more hardwearing surface in the most used places.
