You could add some roman blinds and dress curtains to the window to add character and create a focal point for that wall under which you could add a sofa and armchair in far right corner. I would add a large rug in the centre of the room and a floor lamp. Try loaf or BTC for lamps and Cox & Cox for lovely grey toned large rugs. Thank you both for your comments. Yes we are very lucky to have such a nice room which is why I want to get it looking right. I really like some of your suggestions Minnie 101. I wasn’t keen on the orange with the cushions I currently have on the sofas but the ones you have sent a picture of look much nicer. I also like the idea of a bigger rug which goes under the feet of the chairs. I haven’t yet picked any wallpaper no. Yes Carolina, I know what you mean about the tv but unfortunately there isn’t room on the left wall, it would have to cover half a window. Also the best view from this room is actually to the right of the tv. So it’s only really blocking the view of the drive. I’m not sure how else I could make it work really? Interesting about the mirror. I’ve never thought about it like that. This little area annoys me a little and I’ve always thought it was the lamp or the mess on the console. Maybe it the mirror. I really like some of the items both of you have shown. Is there a link at all that I’m missing to these items or is it just for ideas? Not fully sure how this all works. Looks like quite a challenge! For now I think it makes sense to keep the main patio in the middle and use this as a seating area. For other areas, as a temporary solution and to prevent weeds from growing I would perhaps treat them with glyphosate weed killer or pull up as many weeds as poss providing it’s dry weather leave for a few days to work then cover with a weed proof membrane then on top of that use bark chips. Bark chips are ideal because you can use these at a later stage for flower beds, borders and so on..plus it’s safe for kids to play on. For a grassed area I’d perhaps use the area in the left but the soil will need some work first. Rotivate the soil (churn it up) pull as many weeds out as poss, then use a soil rake to even it out and remove stones. Put some top soil on, rake again then you could either sow grass seeds or lay turf rolls, either way it would need watering daily and can’t be stepped on for a few weeks. Hope this helps:)

Hi Hilary, Why not consider motorised blinds? They are not as expensive as they used to be and now you even get wireless battery operated ones and even solar powered ones which have a 5 year battery life. I considered them for my parents house a while back and the only reason I didn't go ahead was because of other renovation work which is still due. Some come with dawn to dusk timers and can be controlled via your phone even while your away.
