Landscape Design by James Brunton-Smith Limited

In 2016 we renovated a property that had to be completely stripped back to the bare bones. This included the garden at the rear of the property, which had become wild and overgrown over many years. We engaged James to assist and he provided a series of clear plans based on our likes and dislikes. He completely understood what we were trying to achieve in the space, and more. His knowledge of plants and trees was fantastic and he introduced us to lots of new varieties of flowers and grasses we had never heard of. Once the plans were finalised he helped with the sourcing of the plants, trees and the landscaping. This was all achieved within budget and on time. To say we have been delighted with the results is an understatement. We have been able to enjoy the garden all year round, seeing new plants and flowers appearing from seemingly nowhere. James was easy to work with and always at the end of the phone to answer any questions we had. Since the project finished he has been happy to provide ongoing advice and assistance, which had been extremely invaluable to two people with little experience of gardening. We could not recommend him more highly.

James is an extremely competent professional. He worked with us, listening to our likes and dislikes to design a garden that is stunning. His design encompassed both hard and soft landscaping. He assisted in all aspects from design to planting as well as helpful advice and recommendations. We would not hesitate to recommend James.

We asked Designscape to redesign our rear garden after the completion of an orangery & a number of years of neglect. James (designer) came to the house a number of times, taking measurements and making copious notes about what we wanted him to produce. We were delighted with James' interpretation of our ideas - i would describe his interpretation as visionary. He produced very detailed plans which described every facet of the proposed design. The plans (including a set in full colour) were highly detailed and gave views of every aspect of the design. We were so impressed with his initial plans that we decided to go all in & have him remodel the front garden as well. For us, the most important things were his eye for detail & a sound knowledge of horticulture. He is so enthusiastic about what he does - his enthusiasm is infectious. The work on site started promptly & on time - the crew were highly professional & there were none of those dreadful periods when nobody would turn up. Their capacity for work was amazing - no stopping, even for rain & sleet. As the job progressed James remained accessible, ready to answer questions & address any concerns that we had. The guys on site were equally adept at making changes / modifications on the fly - James as well as designing the garden also project managed the operation. One of the things that stands out for me above all else was a visit by Sam (crew) late one evening to check on how the weather was affecting the building work - this was followed by a visit the next morning to make sure that the temporary covers fitted the previous day were still holding - amazing commitment & customer focus. The site was always left tidy at the end of the day's work & although at one stage during the early stages the garden resembled a WW1 battlefield, the crew always tidied away & ensured that within the bounds of what they were doing there was minimal disruption. The block work & paving is faultless & speaks volumes about the quality of work this firm produces. We now are the proud owners of a front & rear garden that resembles something from a photo shoot from an upmarket magazine. The rear garden particularly compliments the orangery & thanks to James' design we appear to have more usable space. We can't wait until the spring so that we can get outside & start enjoying the benefits. The way in which it is modelled gives the impression of seamless transition between inside & outside - the garden has now become an extension of the lounge. But it does not stop there - even when the building work & planting is finished - Designscape provide enviable aftercare / customer service, advice & post-site visits to shape / prune etc. I cannot recommend Designscape highly enough - no hard sell, their product speaks for itself - quality, vision, expertise & a commitment to providing the very best in garden design.

I first got in touch with James at DesignScape to ask about drainage in relation to some rendered raised beds I'm planning as part of a rear extension and patio project, and then one thing led to another… phone calls and numerous emails, followed by plans and photos being exchanged, with James always responding quickly and knowledgeably to the many questions I've asked him. I've found him to be incredibly helpful throughout the process, it's the level of detail that he goes into - small things that make a difference yet could easily be overlooked - that gives you total confidence in his work, and I can't wait to see the final results.

My wife and I were looking for a Landscape Designer/Architect who could make imaginative suggestions for extensive hard landscaping, as well as planting, etc. Having already interviewed numerous other firms (who evidently oversold their services on their web-sites and did not seem sure at all of designing hard landscapes) James was professional and installed confidence that he would interpret our brief with his own ideas. We commissioned the design stage of the works, and after receiving a preliminary design, we had a couple of meetings to develop the design, and now we have a superb masterplan for our gardens, paved/planter areas, planting plan and budget costings, which is exactly what we wanted. We are going to phase the works and have an accurate final costing from Designscape (and await a price from another to compare costs.).
