Hi, Having a single light may not give enough light if both partners like to read. But if the room is for just you one light may be fine. I wouldn't worry too much about having 2 the same often interior designers will have different styles either side of the bed. Having said that make sure there something in common between them, either the same colour of same shape or from the same family. For example this little wall light below (which is great value) could be mixed with the matching table lamp. It's great to have a different look where the room is an unusual shape or when you like symmetry but can't have it. Alternatively you could have something very different like the lamp with a natural shade and wooden base. having different lamps either side of the bed can add a little individuality to the room. One day I will resurface my bedroom walls and paint them a dark colour. With my 18ft ceilings it may take a while to save up! I need a really dark room to sleep at all and although white bedrooms look amazing in sunshine, they can be too light to sleep in.

If you went for a chandelier type, then it will throw up it's own little areas of light and you may not notice the artex so much. A pendant shade covered in at the top would be great because it will throw all the light downwards, the ceiling will be darker and again you won't notice the artex so much if it bothers you.

Looks like kitchen island or dining table light fitting to me. But might be ok depending on your bedroom size etc.
